Re: Free guided walk - Sunday 7th May
I was really hoping to make this, however a wobbly stomach and and an inflexible schedule have scuppered my plans. I did just want to thank you for posting this here, though - I was unaware of Severndroog Castle, and this all sounds like a potentially fantastic day. Please continue to post again; I ...

Re: Is there ever any good news for Sydenham.?
Gillyjp - I passed your handwork outside The Greyhound two nights ago. It looks lovely, thank you. Sherlomi - good on you too and thanks for the rallying cry. Not much time here, but will think on and try and find a spot to do same. To the original poster (sorry I'm being lazy and can't be bothered ...

Re: New to Sydenham!
Hi Akriti, Welcome to Sydenham - hope you'll be really happy here. It is a brilliant place to live! Some other tips to throw in: we're blessed with an abundance of decent Indian restaurants and takeaways, including several award-winning ones. Our favourite is Barrakah - try their Bombay Squid & ...

Re: Reduction in services from London Bridge
Many thanks for the detailed information, Barry, much appreciated. I rely on the trains and would be potentially up for getting involved, but as with the gentleman who posted about shop fronts recently, can you be more specific about what that entails/what is needed? It's hard to say whether one can...

Re: Has your stop water valve been painted white? Here's why
To my dismay this has now happened in Larkbere Road. Is there any way round it, or way to appeal against it? I truly do not want a water meter, and it is really annoying to have be forced into it.

What kind of help are you after, Harrym? I'd be up for it in theory, but have so little time... Sounds great though.

Re: Cat Killer
Many thanks for flagging, cippollottax. I run locally, between Sydenham and Penge, and earlier this week I was really struck by how many notices there are up for missing cats and dogs - they're everywhere. Other than keeping your animals close, I guess all any of us can do is keep eyes peeled, make ...

Re: Refuse Collection
If you've got usable clothes etc to throw out, there are several refugee organisations that do pick ups across London.
As I recall, we had a leaflet through the door at some point in the last year, saying textiles were no longer acceptable.

Re: Lidl shut
For the record, the staff in Lidl are fantastic, fast and friendly, and it's the only supermarket in Sydenham that seems to keep an eye on queues and have any concern about whittling them down as fast as possible. We all have our preferences, and there's little point trying to change perceptions; Br...

Re: Dishwasher folly!
Thanks! You're quite right, Mosy - I've decided to dump it and ask for my money back. Even if I could get it fixed and installed correctly, like a cheating spouse, I could never trust it again. Eagle, I do take your point, and for a long time I felt the same. However, like many people of my generati...

Dishwasher folly!
Last week I bought a secondhand dishwasher, very cheaply, which was described as being "in perfect working order". Alas, perhaps inevitably, it is not in such perfect working order. The water doesn't drain away, but instead gathers at the bottom and then leaks all over the floor; if it had...

Re: Cat killer
I'm extremely sorry to hear this - whoever is doing this is a monster. I just hope it is only one person. Re your post, it shouldn't matter whether people like cats or not - anybody should be able to see that these acts are utterly barbaric, cruel and quite probably representative of an individual w...

Pretty unsettling, sorry to hear that. Any description - age etc? Although obviously carrying a ladder at night is going to make you fairly distinctive!

Re: Carpet cleaning - help!!
Belated thanks, Mosy! Advice appreciated, though it is indeed a small scale steam mop. My vomiting visitor departed earlier, and the Vanish mousse is absorbing as we speak, so fingers crossed. There's a lot of things that I'd never considered I would need to spell out to tenants when letting out a r...

Re: Carpet cleaning - help!!
Thanks - I'm afraid I don't drive, plus the price of hiring the Rug Doctor is pretty steep, so that's ruled out. I have a steam mop so I'm going to have to try using that and gumption. I don't think it's heavily stained, but saving up to get brand new carpet in my home a few years ago was a big deal...

Hallo Jayde - sorry for your loss. A mere two stops away by train (Honor Oak Park) or 15 minutes on the 122 bus is the well-respected Jack Studio Theatre in Brockley. It's a fantastic venue and perfect for a nighttime jaunt. The current production is Anna Karenina and they also host writing workshop...

Carpet cleaning - help!!
Without going into too much gory detail, I've had a temporary lodger in my house who has tonight been sick all over the carpet. I've been scrubbing, and it's grim.
I would very much appreciate the details of anyone locally who does carpet cleaning and doesn't charge a fortune.
Thank you.

Re: Trattoria Raffaele; Let's hope prices stay the same
I love Tratt Raffs, and am glad they have the exposure/recognition, but I thought the article was a nasty, snide, passive-aggressive piece of journalism. I'm not bothered by "unfashionable part of SE London" - if that's what he thinks, his opinion, his loss, but why open by remarking that ...
