Re: Mail

And I believe we have 19 more strikes scheduled before Christmas? Unbelievable.

I don't know whether someone was reading my earlier post, but we got 2 deliveries on Wednesday! Nothing since then.

Are you sure the posties you've seen haven't just been delivering parcels, rather than post?

Re: Mail

No mail received this month at all. The Royal Mail website isn't indicating that there's any problem with the Sydenham/Forest Hill area :(

Re: Southeastern trains to Lewisham, Cannon St ending

Greenwich line goes through Deptford, doesn't it? I have a friend there who's been having to change at London Bridge for all her trains for years now. So I'm surprised there's anything new there.

Re: Southeastern trains to Lewisham, Cannon St ending

So, is there now no direct way of getting from the lower half of the Hayes line to St. John's and New Cross? That would be a pain for anyone wanting to transfer onto the Overground, for example. I'm surprised there's spare platform capacity at Charing Cross, to be honest. And I see there's still no ...

Additional church services over the next 8 days

I notice that following the death of the Queen St. John's Penge has scheduled an additional service of prayer and reflection tomorrow at 10.30. I imagine that other local churches will similarly be offering additional services, drop-in times for reflection and so on for those who wish to make use of...

Re: No East Croydon/Sydenham/London Bridge rail service as of September?

Thanks for the information, squashst (what an appropriate name in the circumstances!). I don't know when they truncated the service to East Croydon anyway (was it during the pandemic?), because it used to run farther beyond that (I never could keep track of whether it was the Caterham train, the Sut...

Re: No East Croydon/Sydenham/London Bridge rail service as of September?

I quite agree. Even if the interchanges are all on the same platform (and I bet that won't always be the case if there are disruptions), as you say it's just another change to be made to get to the East Croydon hub. If you go to West Croydon, it's then an additional fare to get back to East Croydon ...

No East Croydon/Sydenham/London Bridge rail service as of September?

Really? Does anyone know anything about this? https://www.pengematters.org.uk/Save-Our-Trains Seems they're going to reinstate the London Bridge-Crystal Palace-Victoria loop, but nothing down to East Croydon? What will happen on Sundays? Will the loop run then, for the first time, or do we lose all ...

Is there work going on on the Sydenham railway?

Very loud "rumbling" sort of noises coming from what sounds like the Sydenham-Crystal Palace line - clearly penetrating through the double glazing. Does anyone know if engineering work is being carried out tonight? I hope it's not the follow-up tamping work on the Penge tunnel works, becau...

Well, I'll consider moving to Community Fibre if they ever beat my current plan. *And* provided I can keep a non-broadband landline. Remember what happened in the terrible storms in Scotland earlier this year, when people were unable even to call for emergency help because their phones were broadban...

Re: Paxton Court Problems

Quite agree on all counts. And last year, after I complained by email to all the relevant councillors about the noise and disruption from the festivals in Crystal Palace, and cc'd her in, who did I get a response from? Ellie Reeves. Not from any of the councillors whose wards were directly affected.

Re: Sydenham Hill/Penge East rail closure

Thanks for the warning - anything's better than hopping on a train to Kent House only to find you go non-stop to Beckenham Junction :( I know the works have been affected by two days of rail strikes, but generally I'm unimpressed by the way Network Rail has handled all this. And what do they mean ab...

Re: Sydenham Hill/Penge East rail closure

So, it's started. Network Rail supposedly coordinates all these works, yes? So that's why there'll be no trains on the Sydenham line today *either* - and services will close early on that line all week, as well :( So basically the nearest rail line into London that will be working full-time (apart f...

Holiday@Home For Over 50s, Holy Trinity Lennard Road, 1st-3rd August

Holy Trinity Lennard Road is running a "Holiday @ Home" for the over-50s on 1st-3rd August, 10 - 4 o'clock, with a variety of activities. Cost £5 a day, including all activities and refreshments. Booking forms available from the church, I presume, as there's nothing on the website.

Plus the 194 and 75 have been on diversion all weekend. It sometimes feels as though we don't have a bus service at all.

Re: Southeastern trains to Lewisham, Cannon St ending

As I understand it, there will continue to be a half-hourly service to Lewisham, but what happens after that is yet to be decided. My bet would be 4 trains an hour to London Bridge and Charing Cross - which is what used to happen late evenings once Cannon Street was closed, anyway - and change at Le...
