Re: Chamber Music Concert

I attended the concert yesterday evening. It was a very accomplished performance which demanded high standards from the musicians. The adaptation of a range of pieces for wind instruments was extremely well done and, on occasion, quite ingenious. It was disappointing that it was not better attended....

Re: Won't be having loft insulation

.... but I'm not sure I'll even be alive - depends on whether the good doctors at Guys ( and they are good !) And the fab new cancer drugs (and they are good too!) can knock this on the head. All going very well so far and optimism abounding in the Savvy house. I had the good doctors from Guys remo...

Re: Fox Cubs -Sydenham Road / Newlands Park

Isn't it wise to ask RSPCA or similar to remove them and re home them somewhere less urban..? :-) But they are the latest of many generations of urban foxes; connoisseurs of kebabs and chicken takeaways, who view their country cousins who still scratch a living for earthworms with amused contempt! ...

Fox Cubs -Sydenham Road / Newlands Park

We have found that there are five fox cubs living under our shed. I think they are 3-4 weeks old since their fur is still rather sparse and grey and their eyesight is poor. They abandon all caution for a packet of cat food. They are mega-cute. Regards Chris http://edmxtech.co.uk/photos/20150407_foxc...

Sydenham Road/Newlands Park. Same here. When power restored there was the usual work to reset alarms & CCTV, and find out whether the computers had booted up again. Bloody nuisance.

I was given a facsimile copy of the 1863 Bradshaw's Guide as used by Michael Portillo in 'Great British Railway Journeys'. Since my wife Mary and I both watch the program, it was a welcome present.

Re: Accident on Sydenham High Street

I live just the other side of the Newlands Park lights from the accident site, but failed to notice any crash noises and didn't go out to take a look until I read your post at about 22:30. By that time there were only two police cars, and a lorry whose driver seemed to be picking up pieces of the br...

I am not sure how much it would achieve. Currently you can view by Forum, which means that by avoiding the Pub and the Benefits Office you can miss out on a lot of what might have driven some people away, or you can View Unread Posts, and then make a selection based on what you might be interested i...

Re: Linux help needed urgently

You don't get these options with Windows :( Admin PS you can get to command line via GRUB on boot. Just hit an arrow key when it shows. Thanks for the response. I am no fan of Windows which is why, as my working life whimpers to a close, I am switching over to Unix. The only two things it had to re...

Linux help needed urgently

One of my 'important' PCs runs Ubuntu 14.04. I use it to host a number of VMs with Windows guests, and have little knowledge of the OS itself. Yesterday after a reboot the GUI appeared to fail early in the boot sequence. I can get a Ctl-Alt-F1 terminal, but no amount of Ubuntu forum reference and mo...

I think they may be short-staffed during the holiday period. Normally if I try to book an appointment online there is a range offered; yesterday when I took a look there were no appointments available. I guess the normal advice not to get ill during holidays or major sporting events applies! Regards...

I really do appreciate having so many good shops so close by, and would be really peeved to have any of them close and be replaced by a twee gift shop/cafe with a beautiful frontage  An excellent point. I suspect that the nail bars, bookies, pound shops [1] and fast food joints sometimes blin...

A helmet is only obligatory on a powered two-wheeler, not quads or trikes.

Re: Zanzibar motorcycle races on kirkdale

I do not know whether the racing and the Zanzibar are connected so we should be careful in not confusing these two maybe independent hazards to our community. I agree. I have noticed the quad bikes racing up and down the High Street quite often in the last fortnight. I suspected (without evidence) ...
