Re: Bowling Green - Mayow Park

The bowling green would also be a brilliant venue for tea dances. What about having it as a multi purpose space? I don't think rank beginners can be welcome on high quality greens, for fear of damaging the hallowed turf. Mayow Park could be a place to have informal teaching and taster sessions, to a...

Re: Trains post May 20

There is a PDF for Sydenham Metro which seems to be the new name for our route..... Finally, Sydenham's true importance is appreciated! A speed read of the Southern Metro route information sheet looks good. Faster trains 10 carriages long. It isn't the usual tinkering at the edges, it is a wholesale...

Thanks Stuart! The bit I can't figure out is how to get the image URL on Flickr, as I keep getting the page one. I am using it for the first time today. I must find a toddler to show me how.......

Re: Sainsbury's news

I failed miserably yet again on the photo upload. I put it on Flickr, but couldn't work out how to upload to STF. Can someone please do an idiots Guide, assuming absolutely no IT skills, and store it on the site? I am sure that many people would find it useful!

Re: Mopeds

It is an interesting article, but the stats are about moped enabled crime such as bag snatching or violence by riders. It doesn't seem to cover road racing or other motoring offences.

Re: Bowling Green - Mayow Park

The bowling green area is used successfully for events such as the outdoor cinema. This would have to stop if it was to be maintained for bowling, and it would have to be no entry to other park users to stop the green from being worn . How many people would be regularly using the green, compared to ...

Re: sticky:RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

I don't think this has been delaying the development; it is just a fun side issue while they argue the serious point about unregulated freelance delivery people adding to the parking difficulties of Spring Hill. I think that Nandos will be happy in the long run with the grey version, as the increase...

Re: Mopeds

They are doing laps of Fairlawn Park late night. While I also understand teenage urges to break rules, I suspect that some of them are actually adults who never managed to grow up. There is a related issue of furious driving of cars, and spectacularly dangerous manoeuvres driven by positively middle...

Re: sticky:RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

I agree with Prince that we definitely need to keep an eye on this, so what about starting a new sticky for Cobbs Corner developments. This one could be de-stuck, and allowed to drift down the hit parade. A new thread would allow us to have a more positive tone, dump the grudges and move forward. It...

Re: sticky:RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM

I am thrilled by the prospect of the Cobbs building coming back to life, after decades of decline. I was initially disappointed that the signage stuck with the existing clumpy vertical format, as it would have been nice to have seen the original Edwardian slope format to complete the rebirth. I was,...

Re: Been to The Greyhound yet?

No pub can possibly please everybody. Just as well, or it would be impossible to get in. There is a range of alternatives in Sydenham, so everyone should find somewhere that suits them. The Greyhound campaign has been a fantastic success, and there is huge local pride in its reopening. I think, howe...

All very positive noises, some brilliant new connections, and hopefully there may be a rather more professional campaign launched soon. I will post as soon as there is any definite news. Thanks for all the support!

Re: Mopeds

Re the lack of helmets, I believe that the police keep records of problem bikers helmets for ID purposes. Conceal the license plate and conceal the face, and any barrister could argue that it might be mistaken identity. I think the courts can order repeat offenders to only have one helmet as a bail ...

Re: Ignition Brewey needs our help!

The Ignition brewery is such a brilliant success, and everyone wants it to succeed. It would be good if they could take over a pub, which would give them room to expand. Maybe start a la Beer Rebellion, in a shop unit?

Re: The Monstrosity - ie St Philp Neri school building

Just a reminder that if anyone wants to meet and talk about the monstrosity, come along at 6.30 this evening at the library square. Come and gaze at the building with approved plans for contrast. Talk to your neighbours about the sheer grimness of it.....

Hi Pally, shame you can't make it, but I am sure we could do it another time as well. Queries to planning are far more important anyway. For everyone else, the meeting is going ahead tomorrow, Tuesday 8th May at 6.30. We will meet at the Library Square, where there is shade and seating for people to...

Re: The Monstrosity - ie St Philp Neri school building

If anyone is interested, we could meet up at the building to chat. It is much easier to grasp the situation that way, as much of the issues are of scale, & photos are rubbish for that. I am up for a meeting at 6.30 tomorrow evening, so please come along then. I will see if a councillor is availa...

Re: Lewisham Election Results

It will be interesting to see how the proposed boundary changes to parliamentary constituencies affects Lewisham. Sydenham is going to be lumped in with Dulwich. A rather less safe seat for Labour!
