Re: Billings: Fresh never frozen?

I have also wondered about Billing's claim to sell free-range meat, especially chicken. The chickens they do sell are not labeled free-range and I can't believe that a producer would go to the expense of producing certified free-range chicken without labeling it as such especially as the producer's ...

Re: On the Hoof Bistro

Ate there last night with friends. Obviously still settling down, there was a bit of a glitch that could have been avoided by more careful service but I put that down to lack of experience as much as anything else. The evening menu needs at least one other substantial meat main and preferably anothe...

Re: Is Sydenham Safe?

by Eden Green » 14 Aug 2014 15:57 Thanks for your replies. All very reassuring. 4 of the people I spoke to today all said I should move to Beckenham instead. This area to me seems to have an older population and might be a bit boring. Am I stereotyping? We moved to Beckenham from Forest Hill for th...

Re: Sydenham Green Group Practice

Thanks for this. I went down yesterday and got a ID for on-line booking! went home and logged in -no appointments. Went on this morning at about 8 and the earliest appointment was on 10 September. Went on just now and there are loads for Monday next week. Result! What a weird system!

Re: Sydenham Green Group Practice

I tried to get through on the phone this morning, tried at least once a minute from 7.59 to 9.30- always engaged. Gave up. Just not prepared to line up for over an hour. I don't need to see a GP urgently, but a five week wait for an appointment is unacceptable.

Re: Sydenham Green Group Practice

If you're ill enough to see a GP then you're too ill to be at work. If you're not at work then you are free to sit and wait for an available appointment in a GP surgery. If you're too ill to get to the surgery, ring up and get a home visit. Any iller ring for an ambulance. If you're not that ill th...

Sydenham Green Group Practice

Just tried to make an appointment to see a GP to be told the next bookable appointment is 17 September! Impossible to get through at 8.00 am to get an "on the day'" slot. Are all GP surgeries round here as bad as this? And they wonder why people turn up at A&E with minor complaints. BT...

Pub?

Over the last week or so the moderator in the Pub has closed two threads. The first was a undoubtably polarised thread about the Gaza conflict wherein some trenchant views were expressed, including, if I remember correctly, a contribution from the moderator. When a couple of posters expressed strong...

Re: Meanwhile in Penge

With all these pubs on our boarders, the Railway Telegraph and Honor Oak in SE23, the Constitutional Club in Catford and what promises to be a couple of decent pubs in Penge, makes it even more poignant that, Sydenham itself is so poorly served. It would be really great to have some more local compe...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

As above. I can't see any of the commercial interests wanting the Greyhound to be rebuilt. As the local authority cannot or will not enforce rebuilding of the pub, and as Purlake appears to be prepared to spin it out for as long as it takes, then sadly it might be time to accept the fait accompli an...

House prices

It looks like a nice house. But 1.4 million to live in Sydenham? Are they serious? Will they get it?

Re: Three options on housing

We need three things to happen: 1. Re-introduce rent control and security of tenure.. I'm not advocating a return to the old system that existed before deregulation, but sensible forms of secure tenure and control of rents exist in Germany and parts of the US and elsewhere and ensure a affordable an...

I am not sure Abraham Lincoln had a housing crisis
I think he had a rather large house that came with the job.

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

Absolutely agree. There is a very good example of a(very)successful small pub close to home in the Jolly Woodman in Beckenham, and has already been pointed out, the micropub movement shows just how good a small traditional pub can be. The micropubs that work so well in places like Kent do so partly ...

Re: The excellent Billings

Yes, Billings is great. Used to go the the late lamented Parhams at the Chinese Garage in Beckenham which closed down years ago. IMHO Billings is better than the over-priced offerings in Forest Hill or East Dulwich. They are always very willing to source anything they don't have in stock, like game,...
