Bridge House Tavern

Yes, I know it's on the border with Penge...

Seems to be getting the Westow House treatment, judging from the garish wallpaper that's going up.

There were four patches of glass on the road along lawrie park gardens this morning, over quite a large area.

let's face it, if you're posting on here, you're probably "involved" in sydenham in some way. I'm involved in the CP regeneration debate, and also fire off the odd email to potential investors, inviting them to consider coming to the high street. But ultimately (like other posters) I, well...

georgemichael - yes, that's right. We are a free market capitalist country where no shop has a "right" to a exist on the face of competition and economies of scale - hence my vote for A. The Eagle..no. Because it's a chain and a alreay there, the Post Office would fit in either A or B. Any...

*votes "A", repeatedly*

I'd start modest, perhaps with a WH Smith.

Your fantasy high street - just for fun

Just for fun, folks - and firmly tounge in cheek

a) An identikit high street, full of chain stores
b) Keep it as it is, tatty pound shops and all
c) overprice boutiques, selling stuff you’ll never need

nasaroc - you seem to be hopeful that this new sydenham forum will actually bring about change to sydenham high street. unfortunatly, beyond some minor street-scape improvements (£2m really doesn't buy very much these days), its total impact is likely to be marginal at best. realistically, local cou...

Several of the local shops around sydenham sell veg that's practically rotting, and either don't sell meat at all or only sell the hghly-processed stuff. Because of this, the decision of where to shop is normally a no-brainer: go to Sainsburys. It may not be perfect, but it's a hell of a lot better ...

I'm curious - How does one have an "independent" pub? Independent of whom - the brewery, the church, the european union?

i've visited the pub since it's reopened. It's really nice, and the bar staff are really helpful.

Personally, I like the music they play, but I guess it's not to everyone's taste. I suspect they will have to tone down the indie-focus a bit, in order to pull in a more mixed crowd.

Dear "dickp" Thank you for writing to us with your suggestion for a new M&S simply food store in London suburb of Sydenham. I am pleased that you have contacted us about this as our customer's views are very important to us. Although I am unable to confirm that we will locate an M&...

to be fair to them, if they are a large company, the greyhound may just be another asset on their landbank that they will get round to eventually.

Could the Greyhound become an M&S Simply Food?

A large shop area, a good sized car park, room for staff facilies up top, and the site retained as a local community service.

I've seen odder pub conversions in my time...mainly to McDonald's drive thru's. :(

If anyone thinks they are getting a good service from that surgery, they need their head examined! Yes, the staff are very nice and the doctors are fine, but that's not the point. The place is a a dump, the opening times are hopeless, you can scarcely book in advance, and compared with most other su...

mebbie.... In my home town, we had a solution to people breaking into parks - none of the parks had any fences. They were used day and night as thoroughfares (with decent lighting to boot). Rowing boats, ornamental gardens, park facilities - none of them were vandalised - there wasn't time. OK, gang...

I've never understood this concept of "not feeling safe", unless it involves suspicious people directly loitering in your path, and taunting you in a way that has the potential to turn violent. In my ten years in London (seven in sarf london) I have never once been directly threatened, eve...
