I think the forum is fine, if people don't like it they can leave it. This year it got the most people online ever, so I think that proves it is thriving. Personally, sometimes I like to post some serious stuff but other times I just like to come on here and wind people up – sometimes both at the sa...

There's a marble Sainsbury shop front under one of the pound shop frontage. Interesting thought that they had an old fasion shop in the high street once and have now killed the trade in bell green and lower Sydenham. Now they re invent themselves as Sainsbury's local shops so they can put the small...

...presumably now's the time to change the name... Juwlz you, and others, have not convincingly explained why the name should be changed at all, other than describing it as "silly". The name (with that spelling), has been in use for 70 years so why change it? At the risk of repetition, in...

I think some people are forgetting that if the building is to get the makeover that many of us desire, then presumably now's the time to change the name, since the name would presumably feature fairly prominently on the building.

At least things are being done in the right order.

I also quite like Sydenham Neighbourhood Centre because despite everything negative about the high street's appearance the people are really friendly around here. I live in an extremely neighbourly road, for example, which I have not experienced since I was a child, and have got to know lots of peo...

I think that the name should be changed because the current name is stupid and always seems to need a big explanation everytime it's mentioned.

I quite like Gaz's suggestion of 'Sydenham Neighbourhood Centre'. SNC for short.

Crystal Palace sports centre is good. You can use the walk/run there & back as part of your fitness regime!

I'd say generally people are better off joining the UK fitness network. You can use about 90 or so sports centres in London (round here that includes Crystal Palace Sports centre, Beckenham spa, Dulwich Leisure centre), its pretty good value and there's no contract.

Policing steepd up for Halloween

Here I was hoping this story was about extra police being called in to protect the trick or treaters and keep the zimmer-framed armies of Victor Meldrews at bay, but unfortunately not…

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/6441017/Harlequin-ladybirds-spreading-through-British-homes.html Indeed, I had a Harlequin in my car today. Just the one? We've had one or two almost permanently in our bathroom over most of the past two years, maybe longer, I think they get sucked in thru...

Yeah - about a week and a half ago there was a swarm of them outside and then the whole back of our house was covered in hundreds of them. Ever since there's been a gang of about 15 of them all huddled in the very top corner of one room. I'm leaving them well alone, I find them a bit creepy.

Its sad it shut down (whatever it was called) but it was wrong in so many ways. 1.Too far down the high street (for me anyway). 2. Looked a bit grubby and down-at-heel. 3. Never looked like it was open. (wasn't open the one time I tried to go). 4. Impossible to notice it was even there unless someon...

Also, on the surface, perhaps there's nothing wrong with 'fun for fun's sake'. But think about it ...maybe this 'ideal' has led to all manner of problems in society when it remains life's guiding purpose for millions in the west. You think fun is the guiding purpose for millions in the west? I thin...

I understand what you are saying...But my point has still not been answered. What are we celebrating? 'Trick or treat'? Some older 'kids' have turned this bit of harmless 'fun' into a festival of extortion and intimidation. Some older people are so nervous that they refuse to open their doors. I ki...

Apparently there are too many pipes under the high street for us to have any trees planted. Though I think that's a load of rubbish – what high street doesn't have pipes? – they manage to plant trees in other high streets so why not here?
