Re: Slippery pavements

Yep, I'd noticed that too.

Oddly, I find I'm less likely to slip if I'm wearing footwear with no grips -flat soled, therefore with most pavement contact.

I'm not looking forward to Winter (again).

Re: 16 brand new trees

I notice each tree has a plastic pipe next to it, sticking out of the ground.

I wonder what an earth that pipe might be for.....

Re: The central heating equation

Same here. I think we got central heating in the mid 1980s. I certainly remember scraping ice off my bedroom window from the inside. When I get my own house, I want some of these. They're solar panels crossed with heat pumps, and can be used as a replacement for a central heating boiler. http://www....

Re: Sydenham house prices up by 50k?

I can believe it. A flat in my block has just sold for nearly £100k more than the last one two years ago. The former was a probate sale, the latter a refurb, but even so... That said, I suspect the lunacy may ease as many more propeties rush onto the market in the new year. There's probably a five-y...

Re: CRYSTAL PALACE PLANS TO BE UNVEILED

It's a £500 million development, and the plans suggests the masterplan will pretty much be delivered within that. From memory, the basic park tidy-up would have cost £38million, and the expensive option £56 million - chicken feed, in terms of the overall costs.

Re: CRYSTAL PALACE PLANS TO BE UNVEILED

Full plans here: http://www.thelondoncrystalpalace.com This really is one in the eye for everyone who campaigned against the cinema plan, the housing on the caravan park, and Crystal Palace Football club on the site of the old stadium. But then, if you cause a prime site empty to be left empty for y...

Big tent put up in Crystal Palace Park

For a press announcement from Bromley Council on Thursday.

Looks like Ni Zhaoxing's plan to rebuild the Crystal Palace may be stepping up a gear.

Re: Sydenham Road traffic

It strikes me the Kirkdale bookshop pedestrian crossing changes too quickly, and the one lower down too slowly. Thus, drivers are bunched up onto the roundabout because of the Kirkdale bookshop crossing spends too long on red, while pedestrians get narked further down because the lights take too lon...

I went back today, after a few weeks away.

The "chip problem" has now been sorted - they're now nice and crispy.

So, all good!

Re: Cashless-only buses - TfL consultation

My family are currently in london from out of town.

I told them: buy an oystercard when you arrive.

They did.

They used it.

It's really not hard.

There is now a special part within the town pub section for threads of a certain nature. I'm sure the rest of us will be pleased. Freedom of speech has been upheld, but debates covering a certain topic are now locked down to within a sub-group of a sub-group. Hopefully, they will simply dwindle in p...

Re: Too Many Estate Agents - what about Betting Shops?

Why did I never become involved in the Sydenham Society committee structure?

Because of this bollox - bitchy internal politics. Been there, done that. Not again, thanks. I'd rather take the dog for a walk.

Please shut up, all of you.

Someone* could print out a page saying something like "Committee to improve Sydenham's Christmas lights", or some such text, and put it on the table. That way, anyone who's passing - and is interested - could come and join us. Let's not be exclusive... *me? But feel free to wear tinsel, Ra...

Re: Christmas Lights on Sydenham Road

Does anyone know when Next, Pets at Home etc are arriving in Sydenham? If their launch is around Christmas, that would give us an obvious "in" to tap them for sponsorship. In the meantime: Pets at Home Scott Jefferson - marketing director Sally Hopson - Customer and people director PC Worl...
