yes - certainly seems to be moving along in the last few days. One of the most exciting new openings in the last few years in Sydenham IMO.... and a very prominent location for footfall...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Sainsbury's is due to open this week - they have developed that site at super quick speed! It looks almost completed now, and yet was just a shell a few weeks ago.....

Just think how different that corner of SE26 would look once we have the pub and adjacent unit filled

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I welcome Sainsbury's moving in - not just because it prevents an ongoing boarded up shop front in that visible area (gateway) for SE26, but also as it will employ people (hopefully local) who may not otherwise be employed. Also, it gives more choice for the consumer...... That said, ideally we woul...

Re: Sydenham vs Forest Hill

Sydenham for me every time. In the morning rush hour, by the time most trains get to Forest Hill (let alone Honor Oak Park) it's standing room only.....Even many at Sydenham are jammed full between 7 and 9. It's a sure sign of a booming population in London!

I'm over due a visit, but I'm glad it's being extended and is clearly an appealing place to have a swift one or two or five

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I believe from a trusted source that the Sainsbury's signage is going up and that the signage for the ATM is already up (even though the ATM hasn't yet been installed). In fairness to Sainsbury's they have been quick to get this moving after finally starting the works. There are often a small army o...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I agree Eagle - the building itself looks rather grand, and far more impressive than it was in it's last few years as a pub when its bricks were painted and the signage was poor quality in my view. On a closely related topic, the Orb commercial premises across the road is under offer, so let's all h...

Great news for Sydenham, for all of the reasons I mentioned in an earlier post. Very best wishes... and I certainly will visit and see what delights are on offer!

Re: 'Legible London' sign outside Palace Wines

I wonder if it was a damaged sign in some other parts of London - would it not be replaced ASAP? I wonder.... (just a thought)

A real shame to see this damaged as it is very much in the gateway to Sydenham as one comes off the train....

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I agree with many others here…. I think there are two types of shops (like music) – good and bad…. I don’t place a distinction between independents vs chain shops in that view. There are wonderful independents up and down the country which I would cherish having in SE26 (we used to have lovely indep...

Re: Demolition of Hill House 28a Sydenham Hill

Thanks for the tip off on this. I tried searching on the website but got an error.
What are they demolishing? Surely not Hill House itself (the Victorian detached house)?
Thanks

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I'm slightly surprised to see the Greyhound not already sold within a 'deal' (it's been long enough known that it would be available), however, I suppose this is how things work these days - i.e. the formal processes of advertising and bidding via the web, and the new owner would - understandably - ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Thanks for sharing regards Sainsbury's. I think that has been a long term assumption/potential that they would occupy a space adjacent to the Greyhound (I'm a bit surprised they won't take the unit facing onto the street, as I thought that would be more visible)..... If there is any news on who will...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Thanks Parker1970 - I suppose that would make sense.

I hope the developers are eagerly looking for a suitable occupier and we won't need to wait until 2017 for some further developments.

Anyway, on a plus not, it is not the eyesore it was even 3 months ago but a way to go yet.....

Re: Moving to Sydenham Hill

Hello - sorry to say that I don't know the area very well, but I wanted to say hello and welcome to the forum. As a general rule, the train station at Sydenham Hill is very convenient to get into central London, or Bromley the other direction. The area is close to Crystal Palace and Dulwich (and of ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

It's all been rather quiet on the forum for the Greyhound topic so far in 2016... Has anyone received any interesting bits of news on either completion date, or a potential occupier? I passed by earlier in the week, and it's still looking a WHOLE lot better than even a few months ago, but it appears...

Re: Sydenham sushi

Thanks to those posting reviews. It's many years since I visited that restaurant (when it was the Italian) and so I will aim to visit the Sushi restaurant in 2016 for sure! I wish to support local restaurants as much as possible. On a slightly different point - many years ago there was a rumour of a...
