The Perseids are the best ones (usually) each year. You should be able to see meteors for a few more days yet from them (just not at such a rate).

I wonder how many 'big cats' there are in our local area? We certainly have enough green space and woodland to sustain them.

I noticed this morning that Kirkdale is virtually free from roadworks, that is until you get to the roundabout and catch the back up from the high street. The same cannot be said of Wells Park Road, there are lots of little holes from the Spar shop down as far as Kirkdale. There are temporary traffic l...

I agree with the right to strike for the right reasons. Far more often than not - and especially in the case of the RMT and Bob Crow - the wrong reasons are pursued giving the impression that these strikes are led by irresponsible militant unionists. A union strike should work because they have the ...

Ah sorry I can't be of more help - they're on the 'other' Hampshire line! I know that the Portsmouth trains from Waterloo don't all stop at Clapham and that if I were to go from Syd via Clapham it would sometimes involve changing at East Croydon and Woking. It'll be more expensive if you do ...

Where in Hampshire do you have to get to, Bob?

I always go via East Croydon or Waterloo rather than do a Clapham change (not all trains stop at Clapham on the way down to the coast).

Barty, if you get a chance, please thank Southern for opening the gate before the works are completed (and ask them to keep it open during station times! :D ).

Re: Sydenham's biggest loss!

Hello, I am new to the Forum but had to have a quick say! Twilights was the best club in town for many years and the best value for money and only closed down some 6 years ago after a good 25 year stint. The people that owned the club were superb people, I should know I worked there! and as for the...

I seem to recall reading that a lot of our Southern services will no longer terminate at LB but continue through to Blackfriars, Thameslink and Kings X? Certainly hope that the Charing X services are retained though as it's very handy after a night out in town! Also, somewhat sadly as it's my regula...

It really was an earth shattering (and almost house-shattering) bit of weather. I've never known a thunder roll out for that long but it was the lightning that really surprised me. It was as if the world went completely white. Despite several indications in contemporary media, I still seem to be in...

Re: thanks for that

Would you recommend it around there? Oh yes, indeed! DevRd is Forest Hill rather than Syd but I used to live just off there (Tyson Rd - the highest bit!). My mate has recently moved to DevRd, towards the Hob end more and track-side. He has a really nice place and loves it there. Put it this way, I'...
