Hi. Very interesting. Is it the library on Dartmouth Road please? Don't suppose there's a URL link re details? Ta and sorry for being lazy and not Googling. It's also interesting that it's seemingly free. I say this because at a meeting of the Scrutiny committee for Lambeth earlier this year there w...

It's very disconcerting when this sort of thing happens to one's offspring, especially since one wasn't there so, as a parent, one can feel a helplessness for quite a while. *hug* Have to keep stiff upper lip though and keep going - the alternative would be to become a recluse, so have to say "...

Hi Can't help re the former owner. I did have some success by sending stamped addressed envelopes to neighbours in a similar situation. Perhaps the estate agents noted on the for-sale sign might help, since they'd know who'd put the property on the market. They'd be wary of giving info out (privacy ...

Just to note that for internet purchases, Sydenham is normally recognised in the "street" box, then: London (town/city box) London (county box) so I guess for computerised databases, Sydenham is in London and London is in, er, London. Well, yes, I know, but it is a handy tip to know. Learn...

Reminds me of the comment, "Blimey, the situation must be bad if the BBC has drafted Kate Adie in!"

Wonder if he paid with a Sainsbury credit card.

Always like to buy nice fresh sarnies from there - much better than unappetising, flattened prepacked ones :)

My son was put off by the name, and I did wonder myself to be honest, so I asked if they were trying to appeal to a particular clientèle and they assured me they weren't. Anyway, my son (late teens) has been there recently and was happy enough. :)

Thanks for the replies. I know there isn't a perfect solution, given no rear access roads, so that anything has to be a compromise. Still can't say I'm happy with having 8-10 bags on residential Silverdale for several hours each morning and clearly a collection is made in the late morning anyway, bu...

Perhaps the staff have been using ammonia for cleaning? Otherwise, it might be stale wee wee which can have a similar smell. Could perhaps ask the staff if they have any ideas and if they have a regular programme for hosing down/disinfecting suspect places.

True, but assuming it's a once a day collection for most waste (dunno), why couldn't it be at, say, 2pm (before school leaving time)? In other words, as the amount of waste per day will be roughly the same, ww're just talking time of collection aren't we, or am I missing something? Sorry, I don't kn...

Well, from what I know about this, unless an existing driveway already exisits, you're meant to get approval as you'll be driving over a pavement with services under which are meant only to carry the weight of people. A dropped kerb will cost a few hundred pounds by the way, just for dropping the ke...

If you do buy a shiny new one, have a look to see what's around as some now have quite good photo options also. As said re costing cartridges, there are sites which sell "proper" ones cheaper than others; also peeps have different views about how long (how many prints) they last for. Good ...

Re Woolworths: for interest, there was one about 25 years ago. They rationalised later (quick turnover goods only) though not sure of their direction now the Net has made music and videos "slow sellers". Shops have to survive: There was a fantastic art shop (just down past Lidl) which clos...

Alleyway from Sydenham Station through to Silverdale

As rubbish is thrown down, or over the rails/fences into adjoiiiing properties, I asked the Council if they could simply move the litter bin from across the road on Silverdale to the exit of the alleyway (visibly). They said they'd look into it a few weeks ago. Nothing yet. Related issue: At the mee...

Fly tipping vs £15 for council collection

It made me cross recently that there was no way round paying £15 to have my broken washing machine taken away, yet the street often has big items which will have to be taken away "for free". Whilst £15 covers three items, it's a lot to pay for just one in my opinion since the nearest dump ...

Perhaps ask your neighbours about any "activity" (or possibly the police might help?). Just wondering how much of an excess you have on your insurance, since typically there'd be no third party to claim from. Ins policies are generally cheaper if increasing one's excess, but might be somet...

Hi Dutch Cow. I haven't seen Hot Fuzz, but from the internet synopsis it looks hysterical. In context, if I'm thinking along the right lines, the Chair at last night's meeting seemed quite surprised at just how many people attended and noted the commonality of strength of views re several issues. I ...

Having attended the meeting (my first) until 9pm, I was surprised at just how many replies were "our hands are tied". Perhaps the new Assembly (I gather there will be one for each of the 16 wards) might bring some hope. The notice says an Assembly will "add value by: establishing a un...

Re transfer tickets, I sat for 10 mins on a 75 in Catford (around lunchtime)while they changed drivers then I gave up and said please nicely to the 202 driver behind to let me on with my ticket, which he did, though somewhat reluctantly. That wouldn't have worked if I'd paid with my Oyster card, so ...
