I've been in the Dolphin twice now, once on a Saturday afternoon with husband, in-laws and toddler and once for Friday lunch with a friend. Both times the food was great (managed to sample the cheese plate, trout pate, cassoulet, cauliflower cheese, goujons, and beef stew so far) and the service was...

Mediterranean Food Centre? Isn't that what Istanbul used to be called? I wonder if they're owned by the same people.

If they sell fresh phyllo pastry I'll be very happy indeed - it's nearly impossible to find, and around a thousand times better than the frozen stuff.

Hurrah - I'm thrilled to bits that we're finally getting the sort of pub I've been waiting for.

ARG, I've run afoul of the Sydenham Road surgery's bloody new appointment system. NIGHTMARE. What is it with doctor's receptionists? They seem to assume that everyone's a timewaster. I miss the nurse-receptionists in my old GP's office, who was able to work out how serious your appointment need was ...

Oh, I don't know - the Ocado van seems like a permanent fixture on the roads around Sydenham, and I know an awful lot of young professionals and media types who have been pushed down to Sydenham/Forest Hill/Penge by the cost of housing. I think the market is growing, but I'm not sure any retailers h...

Rail incident this morning at Penge East

Does anyone know what's happened this morning? I was on a train that got stuck at the station after the current to the track was cut, and saw the air ambulance land next to the station. One of the station staff members came round to each of the carriages and told everyone that the station was being ...

Yes, Richards was pretty awful in my experience. We only moved to Sydenham last year, but I popped in there a couple of times and was really disappointed by the quality of the stock and the level of service. I've ended up having to order my meat direct, or head into town to buy from the Ginger Pig. ...

Oh no, another estate agent? What is it about Sydenham?

Like Weeble, I'd like to see a nice cafe or bar in the area. I notice that Wooster & Stock is trying to flog their Sydenham branch, so maybe that will turn into something interesting. I live in hope!

Well...cougars roam over fairly large territories in the wild, but if this big moggy is used to roaming around SE London I'd expect that its hunting range may be smaller. If there's plenty of food around (bins, etc) it simply won't have to walk as far. Apart from that, a lot of the assumptions I wou...

Well, when I moved here from the wilds of Canada I never thought I'd have to put my cougar avoidance knowledge into action! On a serious note, do keep your pets & small children indoors. We used to have quite a few puma sightings around where I grew up, and big cats regard them both as eas...

Stuart, I was definitively told that the Bell Green surgery doesn't accept people from Girton Road northwards any more. If you live around Newlands Park, you have to go to the surgery on Sydenham Road. I would really like to see something done about the state of that surgery. Maybe they should write...

I really hate the lack of cinemas as well. You'd think that with the number of working artists in Lewisham, there'd be a case for a decent rep theatre along the lines of the Ritzy or the Hackney Empire (pre-refurb). Going all the way to Beckenham for a wide-release is irritating, but having to go to...

I agree with all of the above - I am DYING for a decent place to go for a drink or a bit of Sunday lunch in the area!

Surely we're not going to have to wait 'til the tube comes (if it ever does) for someone to invest in a decent pub for Sydenham?

We've tried it a few times, and although the service can't be faulted the food is a bit disappointing. I'll order it if I'm looking for a no-brainer take away, but for "home-style" cooking you're better off going to some of the Sri Lankan places in Catford. Not only are they almost embaras...

I'm sorry to say that I don't find our new Sommerfield any more enticing than the old Safeway-turned-Morrisons. The product lines are just so tired. It looks like I'll be sticking to Ocado and Solstice deliveries as well as occasional trips to Borough Market for the forseeable future.
