Re: No water - Mount Ash Road

Hi, I saw a chappy from Thames Water last night and he said that the burst water main on Panmure Road should be ok by around 8pm. He said that the guys were working on it.

Pressure was back to normal by the time Spurs and Man U had received their respective spankings.

Re: Attempted Burglary alert

Reading the Original Post I'm amazed at how many people don't answer the doorbell when it rings. At the very least it would have stopped the burglary in this case! Hi, I don't think it's remotely amazing that people don't answer their doorbell if they don't want to. I just think that some people wi...

Re: Mermaid chippy & Kirkdale Express drycleaners

Hi, thanks for getting back about the oil. I thought perhaps it was just my timing that was off so, was prepared too keep trying (to a point) but, I don't eat fish and chips all the time (honest). I must say that when the frequency of tough chips went up and up, I just voted with my feet as I do whe...

Re: Woodman Public House: Planning Application change of use

Hi, Marymck's comment resonates with me on the basis that if the Woodman is due to become another Estate Agent site, it just means I will have nothing to do with it as a local. As a pub/ restaurant/ cafe, I can go in and use the place whereas I'll have absolutely no need to go in there if it's an Es...

Re: Mermaid chippy & Kirkdale Express drycleaners

Hi, I've got a little (probably silly) question... Whenever I opt for chips from the Mermaid, the chips often feel over-done and tough. I know you guys know your stuff and are super friendly (a real bonus) but, is it because of the oil or something? I've often caught the chips coming straight out of...

Re: Just for fun!

Having had a nice stroll at lunch, I think another six dinner dates could be... Mike Reid One of the builders of the Easter Island statues Sid James Maggie Thatcher Jesse Owens Baal (I can't believe I'm bringing Stargate SG-1 into this...again!) A Traffic Warden (one of the really over-zealous, sadi...

Re: Just for fun!

I could make them a mean spagbol or Macaroni Cheese pie.
Hmmm, I think it would be safer for all if I had a few menus to hand!

I'm going to think about another six victims of my cooking...

Will get back to you in a mo.

Re: My take on London's Riots

Hi, How does seeing your father in a place like that instead of being with you teach you that it is not so bad? I would want my dad with me as I grow up and anything that takes him away from me is not a road I'd want him or me to go down. I don't think anyone has stated that a child's father in pris...

Re: My take on London's Riots

Hi, A looter is a looter but why steal a massive bag of rice instead of trainers? Says something about degrees of poverty, no? Certainly about the income of and what's valued in the household. i have to disagree here as, your quote pre-supposes a degree of poverty akin to something Bob Geldof would ...

Re: My take on London's Riots

Hi all, I think the action of 'owning up' before you are caught is somewhat significant as, it would demonstrate (to me at least) that you have understood the crime you have committed and are being proactive in putting right the wrong you have done (which may, depending on the severity of the offenc...

Re: My take on London's Riots

I do want to be clear about not wanting to conduct an ad hominem attack on anyone. So, my view is that if you loot and are caught and convicted for that offence then, you take the consequences. ...just like the girl in the Evening Standard tonight who is in court for looting from five different shop...

Re: Just for fun!

I think my six would be:

Michael Schumacher
Joan Rivers
Ellen Macarthur
Richard Dean Anderson
Donald Campbell
Amy Johnson

I'd have no idea what I'd cook as I'm not very good and would probably/ definitely ask for help.

Re: My take on London's Riots

At the risk of sounding unsympathetic, I'm sure there were plenty of opportunities for said looters to legally enter an establishment and purchase a bag of rice or a bottle of water.

Again, I am happy and open to discussion but, lets leave the one-liners for another topic.

Re: My take on London's Riots

If a person is caught and convicted of Looting then, (in my opinion) a custodial sentence is warranted. If a person is hungry or thirsty and is compelled to steal a loaf of bread or water in order to survive, I think compassion will suffice. Going out on a night of violence to commit an offence agai...

Re: Need a chair re-upholstering...

Hmmm, my cat has shredded a chair indoors and although I threaten to turn her into cat soup for doing it, she knows I'm bluffing as she's a great burglar alarm.
grrrrrrrr.
The chair itself is nothing special but, if the price is reasonable, it may be worth it.

thanks all.

Re: My take on London's Riots

'All looters should have been jailed'. That I totally agree with. I hope each and every one of the looters (regardless of colour and taste in music) is jailed for their crimes. I'll now enjoy some hip-hop on my headphones for a little bit and when I get home from work, I'll swap the KRS-1 for some T...

Re: I see Bats!

I see them at the top of Kirkdale (The Woodman end) whizzing and swooping about; much to the annoyance of my local (...and very vocal) blackbird it seems. They are so tiny and so quick that I couldn't hazard a guess to which type of bat it is. I might think about giving it a name though... Any sugge...

Re: Tree down on Sydenham Hill

Ahh, that explains the extra traffic on Kirkdale this morning.
I thought the 356 had changed to double deckers...(didn't spot the big sign saying 363 and Crystal Palace).
Nobody hurt I hope.
