I see Bats!

Hi, Has anyone noticed an increase in the amount of Bats recently? I usually associate them with the countryside (like Foxes used to be, I guess) and have noticed more and more around in the evenings. The way they change direction like a house-fly is kind of cool but, I did think I was seeing a baby...

Re: Can you recommend an Estate Agent?!

Hi,
I can recommend Dan at Property World without hesitation.
Great team there and they know and care about their business.

They gave me a bottle of wine and a guide to Sydenham and Forest Hill (history of the area) when I moved into my place.

Re: Where / how to make friends in Sydenham?

I'm with Checkmate in that I've found this forum a great way to get a 'snapshot' of life in SE26. I don't get much time to post but, have found people to be very friendly on here and this seems indicative of the people I've met around SE26. ksyd, perhaps you may fancy indulging yourself in one of th...

Re: New bakery in Kirkdale

Now that's some good news for this neck of the woods.
I'll definitely be popping in for a lightsaber (french stick) or two!

Re: Newlands Park Murder?

RIP and condolences to this young chap's family.
Absolutely sickening and I sincerely hope the murderer(s) are caught.

Re: Waitrose in Sydenham

Haven't had the pleasure but, have no fear as that chap controls his scooter with the skill of a rally driver. When it started snowing recently, as cars snaked up Kirkdale and the drivers realised that snow+ steep hill+ poor driving technique= hilarity, this spritely chap taught a few BMW drivers ho...

Re: Waitrose in Sydenham

Hill Dweller, the usual trend in the Netherlands is to stick a kiddie on the front, one on the back and possibly 3rd kiddie fearlessly riding alongside. It's great and they're so lucky they don't have to worry about hills like Kirkdale. There's a chap that regularly zooms up your part of kirkdale on...

Re: Waitrose in Sydenham

Hi all, I'd welcome the addition of a Waitrose to SE26. It would present a decent option for shoppers (SE26 and beyond) although the practical issues of developing a site and addressing the parking & delivery concerns still remain. Looked at from a personal and somewhat selfish perspective, I'd ...

Re: Missing a nice bakery?

I am liking the idea of a breadmaker (a lot) but, probably won't invest in one just yet. I've made a note of the model number so will keep my gadget radar primed. I don't mind a trek within reason and Westow Street is a doddle. I've just had a gander online and seen some good reviews about BB so it ...

Missing a nice bakery?

Hi there all,
Does Sydenham have a nice (or indeed, any) bakery around the Kirkdale/ Dartmouth Road areas?
Am I missing the blindingly obvious?

The last stick of French bread I bought from Tesco was used as a Lightsabre, then a lunchtime snack and the rest donated as bird-feed.

Re: Attempted Burglary alert

Hi there, i'm only a few streets from Halifax Street and yes, you're absolutely right about the little things making a difference. The police told me the same thing and I agree about not making it as easy as pie for them. The guys in Sydenham DIY are great in this area and if the expense of an alarm...

Re: Attempted Burglary alert

Hi Bensonby, I told them about the car but, it was the distinctive detail that piqued their interest. I wasn't able to provide registration details though as, I 'd walked right behind the rear bumper as I'd walked toward the shops and to attempt to make a note of the registration would've put me at ...

Re: Attempted Burglary alert

Hi there, the chap whose face I saw was darker than Colin Jackson but, not as dark as Michael Johnson (athletes, both), *he had a distinctive feature and was approximately 6'2" and well built. The other 2 chaps were both dark-skinned black males wearing black but, I can't be more descriptive I'...

Re: Attempted Burglary alert

I think that being as vigilant as reasonably possible or at least aware that the risk of burglary (or any crime) is very real, goes some way to staying safe. All my immediate neighbours were made aware of events so, there are now hopefully more sets of eyes watching out for shady characters out back...

Attempted Burglary alert

Happy New Year! My first time on a forum so, hello to you all. A week before xmas, whilst washing dishes, I heard a noise in my garden (around 9pm) and dismissed it until my cat bristled and ran to the door. I instantly knew it wouldn't be another cat as i was also singing rather badly as I washed u...
