Re: Redevelopment of 278-280 Kirkdale (by railway bridge)

Acorn show the Orb commercial unit as now 'under off''... does anyone know who our new neighbours will be? An exciting new venture for 2016....

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

What a lovely thing to happen - i.e. what a kind chap to show you around inside. It sounds like it's a bit of a 'tardis' then in it's size. Regards the tiles - I really hope they DO re-use the original tiles as they were very special, and I dare say part of the terms and conditions for the re-build?...

Re: Bob Wines

Thank you Chris for the reply, and the clarity you've outlined. My reading of the note suggests that you'd not object to Bob Wines per se, but given the context in which you were originally sharing your thoughts, you were highlighting the position re off licences for the broader community (some of w...

That's exciting news about the Alexandra pub. Does anyone know if work has started in earnest? external or internal....
I'm sure it will transform what is rather an eyesore currently into a lovely restoration of a handsome period building (here's hoping!!!)

That's an exciting venture. I wish this the best of fortune if/when (hopefully) they come to Sydenham. I like their style! and I'm sure their wine will be rather good too!

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I must say, having walked past The Greyhound over the last few days, it is looking glorious (so far).... I think they have plinths outside now, for the lovely new greyhounds (yet to be added).... it all looks very smart and (most importantly) has been built in a very sympathetic manner (i.e. keeping...

I can see it now up on a lovely stone plinth... a lovely bronze like this one (if only.... :-) ) http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/3417457 (in fairness to the image - The statue, by Louis Laumen, is in the Coronation Garden. © Copyright John Sutton and licensed for reuse under this Creative Commons L...

I did hear a rumour that work on the Alexandra pub may have started? I may miss out on my festive pint in there, but it will certainly be something to look forward to next year....

Re: WG Grace

Yes - I have long said he deserves to have a statue of him at the roundabout by the Greyhound. Not everyone's cup of tea (either Grace or said statue), but I think it would look fabulous (visitors to Sydenham from the North being greeted by a Victorian sporting giant with a huge beard and hitting a ...

Re: Redevelopment of 278-280 Kirkdale (by railway bridge)

It's interesting that in the advert it mentions the shops in the immediate vicinity and lists Sainsbury's as opening soon... I wonder if this is true? or just the old long standing rumour that has been shared on the Greyhound thread?

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I must say the structure is looking marvellous at the moment, even in this state of flux. I am a great admirer of Victorian architecture, and I did have a fear that the end result may look a bit too like 'Victoriana' however, so far, so very good. The brick work looks lovely, the various decorative ...

Great news. Something to look forward to as the dark nights start to creep in. I wish this venture all the very best.... On a related subject.... any news on the Alexandra publich house please folks? I'd hoped to have a festive pint in there if it opened before Christmas, but is that overly optimist...

Re: Building site on Sydenham High Street

Thanks for sharing the pictures. I think my view has mellowed somewhat, and actually I would say the forecasted images show a large degree of sympathy with the surrounding early Edwardian structures (that said, I would have rather had something even more fitting with the surrounds, so as to almost m...

I see the advertising is up for the development within the Orb.... any rumours on who will take that spot? It's a great position, with plenty of footfall (and opposite the Greyhound which is emerging to take its rightful place in Sydenham)...

Re: Bring back the Victorian style Shop Awning

Great picture by the way (thanks for sharing).... a lovely era for aesthetics of shop fronts. A world away from the plastic cheap signs across much of Britain these days. All is not lost though... there are many shops which still look fantastic up and down Sydenham. I have always admired the book sh...

Re: Building site on Sydenham High Street

I agree it would be a good thing to see that site become developed. I'm not massively keen on the design (I'd have rather seen something more sympathetic to the early Edwardian buildings on either side).... BUT, the most important thing is to create that development to remove that gap in the high st...

Re: Bromley's new streetlighting

yes - I noticed this the other day whilst walking through that area - they are similar in terms of their light to 'floodlights' at a sports stadium. Very 'white' bright lights. I preffered the more 'yellow' lights previously which were not so bright. That said, If they help provide important light f...
