Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

I must say I agree with Stuart on this one. I don't think the gas holders are particularly valuable.

Re: Sydenham book club needs new members

Yes we would welcome both of you. Just come along on the 28 Feb at around 7.30 in the Golden Lion. But only if you've read this month's book, which is Dead Babies by Martin Amis. As it happens, this is quite a short novel, less than 200 pages. You'll find us because the book will be on our table. Mike

Re: Syd Society help request for pavement opposite library?

Would like to add my support for sorting out the lower end of the High St: 1. from the area from the Lovely Gallery to Kent House road - where various cars are parked on the pavement for most of the day. Ridiculous. Unsightly. Totally unpoliced in any real sense. 2. Opposite the library (where I vol...

I get the impression boilers aren't expected to last that long these days
I think that's because they are so high-tech and complex now. There's more to go wrong!

Re: Boundary Commission, revised proposals

I'm not sure how safe Beckenham will be in this rejigged constituency....of the 3 wards that are joining from Penge and Lewisham West, two voted strongly Labour at the last election (Penge & Cator and Crystal Palace) and the third (Clock House) was more or less 50/50 between Tory and Labour. Plu...

Re: Cycle lanes

Well, Southwark's policy is not to have any segregated cycle lanes - apparently the council likes to use cyclists as traffic calming devices for motor vehicles.

I hope Lewisham's is a bit more user friendly!

Yikes. Penge is getting dodgey. In Apr there was that fight in McDs in Penge.
I don't agree!
Maybe I've been lucky, but I've never had any probs in dear old Penge.
And it has some great pubs nowadays too!!

It's in a location on the boundary between Lewisham and Beckenham (now part of Bromley) so MIGHT be a boundary marker??

Boundaries do strange things - I find it amusing that Penge East station was in Beckenham borough! Obviously the railways came later than the boundaries.
