Re: Very bad signal in Sydenham?!

This is the trouble. You commit to a phone/broadband company (both in my case) because their signal is good, then you have to relocate somewhere and suddenly you can't get a decent signal. That's why I'm hoping to remain off-contract until I know where I'm going to be living next.

Re: The future of Sydenham Markets

They need to have more food being cooked/sold. Simple. Something like that, certainly. I mean, it's all very well having some good sources of nice presents etc. for those times when you have someone you're buying a present for, but if you have things that people are going to buy on a regular basis,...

Re: Brown and Green (AKA Mayow Park Cafe): Fab!!

I think you'll find that a lot if them scrape by... It is certainly not a prosperous high street generating a surplus for investment and expansion. I suspect that if you compare the turnover of Beckenham and Crystal Palace with Sydenham, we come up short. Maybe, but isn't Beckenham notorious for ha...

Re: Bakerloo extension - Lower Sydenham transformed

As mainly on existing hayes line track why on earth would it take 26 odd years. I think the Chinese built the Great Wall in less time. Quite. I mean, they managed to build both the Beck Junc-Birkbeck tramline and convert the Overground in a lot less time than that. Wonder whether it will actually g...

Re: Very bad signal in Sydenham?!

I don't think I tend to use the phone much in the house (it's my work phone), so can't be sure, but I think the Vodafone signal is okay around here, unless it's cut out when I'm right in the middle of the building. T-Mobile mobile broadband, on the other hand, is another matter: very poor. And come ...

Stairlifts - esp. in Victorian properties

Just wondered whether anyone has any experience of installing/using/running a stairlift, particularly in a Victorian-style property? Practicalities, costs, that sort of thing?

This wasn't at peak times, but halfway through a weekday morning. And local cabbies are confirming that the phasing has been changed, and for the worse.

It shouldn't be difficult to set up a disposable email address which will feed into your usual email inbox, surely?

What, even all the ones they haven't built yet?

What've we got so far? Currys/PC World, Next, B&Q, Halfords, a pet store, McDonalds recruiting already? My memory's failing here.

Only if it's only been happening in the last 24 hours - otherwise it's probably one of the ones living near me. Actymel24, I think there's actually a "missing cats" thread in one of the chattier forums, so if you haven't already posted there it would be worth doing so: if anyone's spotted ...

New traffic-light phasing Newlands Park/high street

Is anyone else finding the new traffic-light phasing at the junction of Newlands Park and Sydenham Road completely ludicrous? There were 20-odd vehicles queuing in Newlands Park the other day, and maybe half-a-dozen getting through on each green phase, not to mention any poor drivers who'd come up H...

Re: Sydenham Artisan Market - Sat 12 July 2014

I went last month and was very impressed, but was disappointed with this month's showing - the stalls I'd intended to buy from weren't there, so I went to Bromley instead. I'd wondered if some stall-holders were on holiday, but apparently that's not the case.

Someone to do pointing?

Can anyone recommend someone who does exterior pointing, please? With the number of old buildings in Sydenham, I'm sure someone must have some experience.

Thanks.

Re: Jim Dowd: a man with his finger on the pulse.

Anyone who votes for Jim Dowd at next year's election is simply crazy on the basis that he is a completely absent sitting MP. Could anyone in the know please itemize Mr Dowd's achievements since he was re-elected in 2010 with a majority of 12%? For me this is not about the party he represents but t...

Re: Cash free buses

The likely scenario is that the bus driver will use his or her discretion and let you on. If you look your age, or thereabouts, he or she will know that your bus journey is likely to be a free one. It's the same for school children. They need their Zip card (the junior version of the Oyster) to pro...

Re: Pale blue dot

Thanks for that. There are really too many cats in our immediate vicinity in Sydenham. We've already tried one of those supposedly-inaudible-to-humans cat scarers (I don't think any particular cat visited often enough to get the message!), garlic powder from B&Q, but not olbas oil. I know people...

Re: Sydenham Market today - Saturday 14 June

I totally agree: have Lewisham done anything to publicise it at all? (Perhaps they haven't ventured into the bits of Sydenham which are technically Bromley?). I only discovered it by chance, when I came across the vegan cake stall down at Morden Hall a few weeks ago (that's on the tramline into Wimb...
