Re: Parent and baby/ Toddler groups Mon-Fri?

Hi all, I have really struggled to piece together and remember all the info that I have seen in various places for local parent and child groups Monday-Friday. I thought it would be really helpful for me and others in the area to have all suggestions in one place so here goes (I can only help with ...

Re: Calabash...a new shop on high street

I walked past when they were just setting up and found it hard to see (too cluttered window display) to see what they were selling (being me, I mentioned that as they seemed to be taking photos of the frontage). Anyway, a calabash is apparently an art form made from the gourds (fruits) of a vine, s...

Re: Calabash...a new shop on high street

I ventured in last week as a black board displayed outside mentioned 'Soothies' and salads. My feral 3.5yr old  was with me and the shop owner nicely led him over to the kiddie corner. My son was then mesmerised by the selection of toys, books etc and sat down at the old school desks to play w...

Re: Freelancer/home worker meet-ups?

I thought there was one in the Blue Mountain on a certain Friday of the month or perhaps it was weekly that I read about on this forum ages ago? If not I am sure you could start one and see if anyone comes along - there are quite a few work from home/freelance types that use this forum

friendly staff and great red velvet cupcakes, ice cream and waffles. Coffee and hot chocolate also nice - can't comment on lunch/salads as I love the amazing veggie offerings and 'soothies' on offer in Calabash of Culture a few doors up.

Re: Jill hub / Cherry & Ice

Also the ice cream display needs to look like the ones from ZaZa Gelato. I've been to the one in Canary Wharf but they have one in Portobello Rd or so I believe. How do I paste a picture? Have you also asked local retailers to display your poster. Eg Fresh and Fruity the popular and fr...

Re: Sydenham Market last Sunday of the month

I think it's a great initiative and can only be good for Sydenham. We weren't able to visit yesterday but have enjoyed the other markets and have always made lots of purchases. We also once had lunch sitting on the benches in Venner Square and chatted to other locals, which was lovely. Hopefully it...

Re: WHAT IF 20: STATION APPROACH

Re destinations I think Victoria is irrelevant when you can get there in 18mins from Penge East. Except only those that don't have to walk the full length of Venner Road will get any significant benefit. Plus a major counter benefit of Sydenham is it is the last station in zone 3 making it financia...

Re: WHAT IF 20: STATION APPROACH

Looks great and it highlights that this is in fact a beautiful building. Draws attention to local businesses and hopefully will make more people aware of the great coffee to go from On the Hoof (especially to bus users). Any other local business that wanted to pay towards the cost & have a panel...

Re: WHAT IF 21: BARAKAH

I agree about the classy flyer and tired shop front being slightly at odds. Lots of people probably order delivery option so aren't aware of and put off by the exterior. And they shouldn't be as the food is amazing. Great curry and everybody I have told about it has gone on to become a loyal custome...

Re: Could SE26 follow Hastings?

I think the street markets are a good thing to come to the area (whether this is from the Portas Pilot or not). I think they could sell more than just food though - the last Sydenham market had some craft and vintage stalls too Some of the pop-up shops have looked amazing and had great merchandise b...

Could you get in touch with the woman who organises Nature Play in Sydenham Hill Woods for advice? There is also a scout hut by the Dulwich Wood entrance - might be an option for shelter if weather isn't so good? At Nature Play everyone brings a healthy snack to share at the picnic plus a cup/drink ...

Re: Where's a good place to go for coffee in Syd?

Hi all, I saw this thread and thought I should let you know I will be starting a pop up cafe at the back of Alhambra in Kirkdale village on the 19th September. It will be called the Secret Garden Cafe and will sell an array of pastry's, sandwiches, specialist teas and cakes. All home made! I really...

Re: Where's a good place to go for coffee in Syd?

I love coffee from On The Hoof. For a sit down then Alexander Nurseries in Parish Lane, Penge is nice. I do like Blue Mountain but can be a squash in there & sometimes feel disappointed with atmosphere/food for price (my husband more so but he loves Chefs Delight greasy spoon). Big fan of Canvas...
