Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey

Wow - when worlds collide! You read local government lawyer, Buiscuitman? That website is run by a couple former contacts of mine. That's a pretty darned small world, if you do.

Re: Houses built in Crystal palace park?

Nope. Now the legal battle is out of the way, there is legal certainty. Funding, while difficult, is no longer impossible due to the legal challenge hanging over the whole plan. It'll take time, but stuff is happening. And the lease on the caravan park expires in 2019, I believe. That'll unlock some...

*is now confused about whether he's debating with the anti-shed-shopping brigade who are are*

a) anti-shed because they destroy independent traders; or
b) anti-shed because they prefer the internet.

*Either way, think's there's a lot of "hate" about in Sydenham regarding shopping*

Weird, then, that you come across as such a snob about retail work...

Come on, spill - did PC World ever turn you down for a job? If so, does it still hurt?

Re: 10 Jobs available at the new Dixon/PC World

What a charming world view mikecg has.

I guess he never worked in a shop to pay his way / gain work experience through his A-level or a degree, like many of us did. Perhaps it was beneath him?

With bonus, 10% staff discount, and pension.

Wonder how many "independent" shops offer any of these things?

Re: Mary Portas: Pop up Shops

I believe the pop-up shop in Kirkdale has now closed. Speaking to the operator, the unit seemed a very strange set-up - no "back" office / storage space at all, although (I think) a cellar. So it might be a hard sell for any potential tenant. I hope the Buchery in Forest Hill goes well. I'...

We had croissants. They were OK. Just OK.

Not as flavourful as those before - on par *dons helmet* with Tescos.

Re: Sydenham Plumbing and heating merchants - recommended?

I decided not to use Waterloo Plumbing because they were fractionally more expensive than the supplier I decided to go with - and then wished I had.

Re: Nice place for a Sunday roast in or near Sydenham

Westow house, crystal palace, bridge tavern penge, sylvian post forest hill. All urban shabby chic and chilled, kiddie friendly. Typically around £12. Crown and greyhound dulwich village further out, or florence herne hill.

Assuming, of course, you spend the minimum of £20, which is unlikely for convience shopping. "Spend £20 or more, with at least one branded product in your basket, and we'll work out any difference in the price compared with Asda and Tesco. If the same branded shop could have been bought for les...

Re: Exciting day in Mayow Park

Although it might be an idea to put a flyer up outside the building, saying it's going to be improved.

I walked past this yesterday, and the main thing I noticed was the "danger demolition" sign - which probably sends out completely the wrong message about what's about to happen!

Re: Say No To T£sco

When Tescos Kirdale opened, it mean that I no longer had to suffer the "joys" of Payless for top-up shopping - both are equidistant from my home. If Payless is what you call and "independent" shop, then yes, it suffered. Big deal. I wouldn't miss it if it went under. When Sainsbu...
