Re: Life Changing Ministries To Sing Until 1 a.m.

Outside working hours, and all day Sunday, the parking outside Volkspares is empty. It is private property, but so long as it is clear by start of business they do not seem to mind cars parked there. However, if you do leave a car there you get one warning and then it will be clamped.

Re: Life Changing Ministries To Sing Until 1 a.m.

They would have to be partying pretty hard to be heard above the normal activity on the Sydenham Road/Newlands Park junction on a Friday night! Noisy traffic and shouted conversations dominate until well after 01:00. It is the price one pays for living at the centre of things.

Re: Life Changing Ministries To Sing Until 1 a.m.

The church has been open and holding services throughout this year. The proposed extension is for opening until 01:00 on the first Friday of each month only. My wife and I live next to number 106, the side of the building being the back wall of our garden. We were a little uncertain about how it wou...

Re: Moderation of 'The Promise'

I think your working definition of racism is suitable for judging forum posts. Some interpretation might be required; I had been thinking of making a posting under the tongue-in-cheek title 'A Racist Observation?' I will PM you with it as an illustration of what I mean. There are some aspects of the...

Re: Classical music

Bach, Handel and Vivaldi certainly (although the ubiquity of 'The Four Seasons' takes a bit of the gloss off poor old Vivaldi), but also Telleman and Scarlatti. I enjoy Correlli as well, although strictly speaking he is mid-Baroque. My musical enjoyment is not exclusively restricted to that period. ...

Re: Objectively, is there a problem with this Forum?

Learning to deal with bores, the deranged and mosaic lovers (joke!) is part of life. Trying to ignore they exist or insisting they must conform to our unchallenged views of society is either escapism or a return to net curtain twitching. Whilst I tend to agree with you, I do not believe that people...

Re: Signatures

I have no strong feelings either way about signatures, but I find the absence of avatars a plus. They tend to be distracting and, if animations are used, can be downright irritating. On many other boards I use the browser 'block images from..' capability to suppress them.

A general guideline: The hurt that has been done to you may explain, but does not justify, the hurt which you do in return.

Re: What do we call someone from Sydenham?

I feel Sydenhamite is the expression which seems most natural. A shame that it sounds a bit like 'sodomite', but I guess that is just my dirty old mind.

Re: Lost mobile phone - Mayow Park

A progress report on my Orange San Franciso. A couple of days ago I took the plunge and de-branded it by installing an Android 2.2 ROM called Swedish_Spring. This, quite apart from giving a much less cluttered phone, has on-demand clock frequency adjustment, so the battery life has doubled. I am now...

Re: Lost mobile phone - Mayow Park

If you want to push the boat out a bit - IMHO the greatest bargain is the Orange San Francisco smart Android phone. Can be unlocked in seconds for free to work with any network - £79 for something that some people think is better than an iPhone - well the camera is complete naff but if you want fun...

Re: THAI RESTAURANT COMES TO SYDENHAM

What a shame Lee's post was timestamped at 12:03. On Tyneside the tradition was that April Fools Day lasted only until midday. After that you would shout at an erstwhile hoaxer:

"April Fools is dead and gone.
You're the fool and I am none"

Re: Garden waste - how to get rid of it via the Council?

Lat year, between March and November, Lewisham organised garden waste pickup at weekends from the Girton Road car park. With luck they will do it again this year. I try to compost as much as possible, including tree prunings which I put through a shredder first, but last year we had a ton of ivy to ...

Garage wanted

If anyone knows of anything suitable could you let her know, or post here and I will convey the information t...
