Re: Where's a good place to go for coffee in Syd?
As announced in other threads by far the best place to find an area large, warm and comfortable enough for prams, push chairs, kids, carers is our own Community Library. Try it - it really is fantastically welcoming and now it has a child friendly café too which is a first (in my opinion) in Sydenham.

Re: Christmas tree
The giant Christma s tree - yes, it is huge and it is beautiful - would you (miss bee et al) rather it was cut into log size bits for fire? I certainly wouldn't; firstly because it is beautiful and adds a green "splash" to the otherwise drab brown winter local landscapes, and then finally ...

We're in there at least once a week. All our meat and fish are purchased from Billings
Same here. Brilliant.

Re: Where's a good place to go for coffee in Syd?
......and of course, and at (great) risk of repeating myself endlessly, there is now the great café within the Sydenham Community Library which is perfect for carers, kids, pushchairs (!) and people with none of those. At long last!
Sydenham now has a café where kids and their carers are welcomed, have a huge space to play & run around (and keep buggies), can have a drink and something to eat and sit comfortably and read a book to top it all. How long have we waited for this to happen? You can find it in our community Libra...

Re: New ikea coming to Greenwich
No you're right I couldn't... it has to be said, the place completely does my head in! Just to think of it gives me a nervous tick and my partner develops a persistent migraine. But....... their kitchens, for example, have been voted by Which as Best Value category. And my truffle coloured designer ...

Re: STF CHRISTMAS SOCIAL - ANY TAKERS?
The temptation to ask AA what on earth his post has to do with Admin's brilliant idea is there (has to be said) but in the conciliatory spirit in which the OP has been made I reply - yes, sounds great, would much prefer Sunday 15th as I think I will need a long, strong drink after all that merriment...

Re: HIGH STREET NEED RADICAL ACTION…
That was absolutely what I was saying, GMan, thank you. And from what I heard in Assembly today there is still hope. A good pub in Sydenham? that's a fantastic thought as is the prospect of that amazing wall with all the pictures of Sydenham people: it must be driving Lee N. absolutely mad all this ...

Re: HIGH STREET NEED RADICAL ACTION…
Oh I totally agree with the positive outlook on Sydenham, even though I recognise that much is still to be done (but so what, I can wait) We've been here for 3 and 1/2 years. On arrival the main street was, and I quote myself, an absolute dump with the exception of PLC & Kirkdale bookshop. Now I...

Re: HIGH STREET NEED RADICAL ACTION…
Ahaaa... if only William of Cherry and Ice was reading this! Because of all people he certainly could have a great coffee shop which also sold records, books and held events. It is still possible.... so much has changed around here already (in a relatively short period of time), that too can happen....

Re: Christmas Lights on Sydenham Road
Just a quick update: I've just found out that a lot of work has already been going on, and will continue to go on, regarding lighting and events at Christmas. We will soon be told what has been planned and acquired - many thanks for the tireless organisers!
