Re: High street

There seems to be an increase in these types of businesses everywhere, along with betting shops, pawn shops and sell your gold places. Sadly a sign of the times?

Re: Bell Green Retail Park

It seems a bit weird having a Homebase AND a B&Q. To be honest I thought the plans had been shelved when all the flats started going up. Most disappointed there will be a McDonalds.

Re: RECYCLING IN LEWISHAM

That's excellent as it seemed that we moved backwards when they changed the policy a few years ago - anyone else remember recycling plastics with a 1 or 2 in the triangle?

Re: 3 MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL IN SYDENHAM

I've recently moved to 3 from O2 and think my signal has actually improved. I regularly didn't have a signal with O2 in some parts of my place and in others it varied. Now with 3 it goes occasionally but not often. On aside, I've always found Crystal Palace a problem but with 3 it hasn't been at all.

Re: Somewhere for Sunday lunch in Beckenham?

I've always fancied trying La Rascasse.

This is too late now but the Toby Carvery Elmers End isn't too far away from Beckenha - a few minutes by car. Good value.

Re: Venetian blinds

I fancied some venetian blinds and didn't realise how difficult it would be to get some to fit my windows. They would have to be bespoke and cost a fortune. I got a quote of nearly £400 from the closing down curtain shop but that seemed ridiculously pricy to me. I wish Ikea ones would fit my windows...

Re: The two half´s pub

Apologies if I am repeating anything already covered!

Does anyone remember when it (The 2 halfs) was a bed shop and then became the Pukka Bar? It really was fantastic food there. Such a shame the idea didn't take off.

Re: I refused to pay the 29% increase in utility prices!

I met a family on holiday a couple of years ago who claimed to have made all sorts of savings with utility warehouse. They also earned money from it somehow, possibly from referrals.

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

Savacentre petrol station still closed. I think the Costcutter had been attacked on Monday night. I don't think anything out of the ordinary happened in Sydenham last night.

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

I've just come back in from a drive along the high street and most shops are shut or in the process of closing. Fast food outlets are generally open. I have considered going to the gym for a swim etc as LA Fitness is open but then as they have random acts of nuttiness from members of the public on a...

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

Paultreacy - As a teacher I disagree that schools aren't providing much guidance! Mind you, as it has come from teachers etc they don't always want to listen. Also it is hard to engage them in such a way that the effect lasts once they leave the school gates. The school I work in doesn't provide as ...

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

I just called the 101 police number to see if they were advising closures for Sydenham. The operator I spoke to said at this stage it is up to each organisation to make the decision following their own risk assessment of the situation. As the events are sporadic and random they don't know for sure w...

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

Have heard that Primark in Bromley wasn't looted. It's hard to know what is/isn't true. Re youth clubs etc and frequent comments I've heard about kids having nothing to do. I don't think this is really the cause. There is plenty to do but many kids don't have the inclination to find constructive thi...

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)

Felt very uncomfortable about an hour ago as I drove by a guy with a hood carrying a plastic petrol container passing the mercedes garage. Could have been completely innocent but maybe not.

Whatever you do, do not go to Wickes/B&Q etc and pick up a workman from there. I know someone who has recently learnt this the hard way

Re: Community café for Mayow Park !?!

I remember the cafe there when I moved to the area in 1994. I would love to see something being run in the park again. Correct me if I'm wrong though but a couple of years ago when the council ran a "tell us what you think" type session in the park I am sure they said that the pavillion wa...
