Re: Istanbul 'supermarket'

I agree about not liking something vs. it being off. This wine was off. Sulphur and vinegar are not usually tastes/smells I would equate with a rose wine. I suspect the seal was not intact.

Istanbul 'supermarket'

Apologies in advance for the rant. I realise this may be petty but.... Friend came for dinner last night and asked if they could pick up anything. I suggest just a bottle of wine. Not knowing the area they went to Istanbul 'supermarket'. I usually don't go in there as I find the prices much higher t...

Is there ever any good news for Sydenham.?

Looking through this forum I am struck by how little good news about our area we see lately. There seems to be plenty of bad news - Budgen replacing Co-op, Budgens being awful, closing and possibly nothing to go in the unit, the Orb retail unit becoming another estate agent, Namaste looking awful, l...

Re: High Street banners

Slightly off subject but similar situation. Skanska were responsible for changing the lanterns in the Thorpes. They did all the roads but Princethorpe. I contacted them asking why and was told something about not having any of the new ones in stock. They then replaced the lanterns like-for-like for ...

Re: Parking problems

I wanted to move this back up. I didn't think it was possible but parking seems to be getting worse. Between the hours of 7 and 9am the sound of cars up and down the thorpes parking is astounding. I refuse to put my bins out to 'mark ''my'' space' as many seem to do. However, I really resent having ...

Sydenham Cars SHOCKING

We've used them for years with very mixed feelings towards the service from some of their drivers. Among the most memorable events was when a driver fell asleep in a long traffic jam. We booked for family visiting from abroad to be picked up at Heathrow. We called back to confirm as our family are a...

Re: Parking problems

I don't think the problem is just commuters. Several of the local business owners and their staff have chosen to make the area their personal parking lot - the Mercedes dealer, Enterprise cars, some wholesale flower company and Wellbeing among others. There's also a situation where people are leavin...

Re: Parking problems

Hello I wanted to move this up. I'm wondering if anyone has noticed that this parking problem is getting much worse in the last couple months? Today I drove around the area for 25 minutes trying to find a place to park. I ended up 5 streets away from my home. You can now see the great influx of comm...

Re: Yummy Mummies, Wet Wipes & Archies

THANKS so much for starting this thread. I think the cafe is great but I NEVER go in. I actually don't feel welcome which, I know, is silly however, it is too much to deal with. Its not the children but the parents who seem claim ownership of these places and seem oblivious that, though others may n...

Thank you Parker. This happens with owning sighthounds/ lurchers. Still, its not a pleasant thing to happen so close to home.

No, I was heading to Mayow park, opposite end of the thorpes and got a bit nervous. I suspect he would have bolted if I headed there.

Aggressive, threatening confrontation in the Thorpes.

Today I was walking my two lurchers in the Thorpes when I was approached by a man asking if I course these dogs. When I said ‘no’ he offered to buy them. I am use to this happening as coursing is a tradition in the traveler community . On several occasions I have been asked If I would like to sell m...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I mentioned this earlier and was informed it would be changed but I still see what seems to be the ceiling of the first floor is half way down the windows on the first floor. I looked at the plans and it isn't clear if this will be changed. Will that interior work happen after the outside if finished?

Re: Parking problems

I've been wanting to write about this for a very long time but know its a difficult subject. Here's what I drafted months ago: Is it time to talk about parking on our area? Firstly, apologies for this post. This is my first post but I do read and keep up with what is going on in the area. I am also ...
