Re: Maps

You can get OS maps from the 1950s here: https://maps.nls.uk - search by place, select that you want England and Wales Maps and the size/date. Later OS maps tend not to be online for free as they're all Crown Copyright, and they will actually do something about it if you put more than a photo of the...

Re: Maps

Indexes exist - you'd need to get yourself to the British Library or somewhere else which has them. It's been a while since I saw one and I can't remember what information they give, other than the designation of the land (ie agricultural/industrial etc).

Re: Bell Green - A New Plan, January 2019

Were there reps from Perry Vale ward? Some of us who are a few minutes walk away around Perry Rise have a legitimate interest in what's on the site and the knock on effects. Ultimately, the whole thing needs to move on and a proper decision (hopefully one which manages the whole site) made. I hope m...

Re: New Aldi approved in Bell Green

For the record - that is if anyone on this forum is interested - the Sydenham Society welcomed Nando's. It did ask Lewisham if there was going to be any takeaway or home delivery as it was not clear on the original application. This was clarified by Nando's and accepted by Planning. At no stage was...

Re: Worst local transport journeys?

Never felt safe walking the “long wall” walk from Lower Sydenham either, but for a different reason - the sheer feeling of isolation. I don't like it either, the bad lighting doesn't help. I occasionally opt to bus back from Catford Bridge instead but trying to cross the road there isn't great as t...

Re: Worst local transport journeys?

One of my most-hated is the Overground at rush hour (I normally go into London Bridge). You have to stand, it's unpleasantly hot by the time you get as far as Forest Hill and then you have to battle your way to a massive queue at Canada Water. London Bridge is more convenient for me anyway, but it's...

Re: Travellers in Girton Road car park

If you google "Penfolds Kangley Bridge Road" the top hit is this thread, and there's no result which explains who they might be. I don't know about alywin, but I don't have time to wander down there in the next couple of days, so could someone illuminate us please?

Re: Noise in Lower Syd last night

This year's party on the night of the 4th/5th of August was held at the back of Byron Close. I actually went and looked, and saw the lights and dancing across the park; the noise was quite unbelievable. Lewisham needs to sort out a reporting system if they can't afford a patrol, so this can be tack...

Re: Poundstretcher in old co-op site

Heard a rumour over the weekend from somebody that claims to have seen the approved plans, that the site will become a Wetherspoons pub. Can't see that working myself as there is already a decent choice of pubs that serve food along Sydenham Road. No sign of it on the Lewisham planning portal - and...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

The museum is a great idea and should be in The Livesey. Lets get rid of the gas holders! I love museums, but there's a lot to running one of them and they aren't the easy solution for a building that it sounds like. For example: What would their collection be, and where would it come from? Where w...

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?

What sort of trees? I wouldn't like to have plane trees on the high street, they're really bad for a lot hay fever sufferers. Definitely in favour of other trees though!

Someone I know wrote this: https://thatgarybrannanthing.wordpress.com/2017/06/07/voting-what-you-need-to-know/ a couple of years ago, including a bit about the count. It's very unlikely that anyone would be able to trace back your vote from what he describes about how it works, and he does actually ...

Re: Bell Green Gas Holders - Proposal to Demolish in April 2

I must admit that i never thought the gas holders would survive (although I rather like them). I'll continue to object to badly thought out plans for the site which will generate more traffic, more pollution and more rubbish though. The only decent thing about the last proposal was the Scoot system,...

Re: Sydenham Society

Ok, point taken re: buses from Lower Sydenham up, but Bell Green to Sydenham station is 20 mins walk max, so assuming you’re reasonably able bodied that might be a better bet? (From where I am I will pretty much always walk to the station faster than the bus at peak rush hour time.) As above though...
