Re: Bell Green - A New Plan, January 2019

Case in point. On Thursday a planning application from a local resident to put an extension on their house will be taken before a full committee of councillors - as the Sydenham Soc have objected. The councils own planning officials say it should go ahead. I’ve omitted the case details to spare emba...

Re: Bell Green - A New Plan, January 2019

I guess people are aggrieved not necessarily over this specifically (although some folk are), but because of the long pattern, which continues despite people's pleas for greater transparency, consultation.

Nice to see people still want to invest. Doubt anyone would miss the little 70s block.

Agree. Silly overthetop language doesn't make whatever case there may be any stronger, and often has the reverse effect.

Re: Hillcrest Estate - report published

Thank you for your replies everyone. Would we all agree that whether supportive of a proposal or not, it’s in everybody’s interests that decisions being taken are transparent and clear? I’m sure I’m not the only one who doesn’t want a situation where major decisions – for or against – are being take...

Re: Hillcrest Estate - report published

What were these fundamental flaws?

It seemed clear to me that it was cancelled because of the pressure put on the council via the lobbying campaign - there were letters to the Standard from the Sydenham society and a demo outside the council office.

Hillcrest Estate - report published

Dear all, You may recall that on October 9, Lewisham decided to cancel the proposed council housing development at Hillcrest Estate, following a campaign by a number of local residents' groups (including a demonstration outside the council office). This housing was for 22 Lewisham Homes properties f...

An update on the gasholders development appeal, and a number of other local issues, is in the latest planning minutes.

I’d like to see the basis for the Sydenham Society claim - in a letter to the evening standard - that 50 “ancient and veteran” trees would be cut down.

An embarrassing day for Sydenham and a campaign of misinformation from people who should know better.

Re: Hillcrest Estate development

There's a letter about this in the Evening Standard. https://www.standard.co.uk/comment/letters/the-reader-consent-should-be-taught-to-primary-school-children-a3948191.html To repeat: the claim that 50 "ancient and veteran trees" will be cut down for these houses is simply untrue. It's fak...

Re: A Leaf out of East Dulwich Forum's book?

Courtesy, respect and politeness is of course important. But am I right in detecting some of the upset comes in relation to debates around planning decisions, including social housing, and representations made around those? I hope this forum should still be a place for candid but respectful discussi...

There’s a news story here on the campaign against new council houses. https://www.londonnewsonline.co.uk/lewisham-residents-challenge-town-hall-chiefs-over-plans-to-chop-down-beloved-trees-and-build-houses-on-top/ Really sad to see our local community organisations putting out such blatant misinform...

I think this debate may have got mixed between two developments: the houses at 154-158 Sydenham Road, and flats at 86 Bell Green. Both are now going ahead.

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road

I was referring to the 30+ letters of support from locals mentioned in the planning report. I just think newspaper coverage of housing often exaggerates the anti- campaign and this is a good example
