Re: Flabbergasted

I think Stuart pointed out earlier up thread which ones it wasn't (Bue Mountain, Kirkdale bookshop, and the DIY place if I'm not mistaken) - it's unlikely to be a charity shop, a pharmacy, or a credit union so there's only one two others left. the mention of fridges for goods, might point to the lar...

Re: Sydenham vs Forest Hill

everything everyone else says, plus: west of the rail line, you can kind of count Dartmouth Road, and Kirkdale as continuations of the high streets, so the walk to any shops is far less than east of the rail line where there are hardly any shops (a couple of runs of small corner shops but nothing ma...

Re: Yummy Mummies, Wet Wipes & Archies

my wife and I are careful about where we go out for a meal, choosing places that are not obviously un-child friendly, if you see what I mean. Mostly the little one is in a high chair, and everything is fine, we can move cutlery etc far enough away that he doesn't grab it and stab himself, or use the...

last night at 6pm the water was still gushing so at least they appear to have done something to slow or stop the leak.

Re: Bin removal

we recieved a note many months ago saying that if our bin wasn't full and it could wait a week, then not to put it to the pavement, so that it wasn't collected, and the bin men could then complete the round quicker, and be more efficient. I've seen them in action and quite often they combine the con...

Re: Bin removal

Perry Rise on a Tuesday morning? cars parked half on the pavement, and bins out for collection. sometimes tricky to negotiate with a childs pushchair. If we can persuade manufacturers to make more stuff recyclable, then there will be less to 'throw away' as rubish. in the future we should only have ...

Re: 'Legible London' sign outside Palace Wines

I looked at it this morning, it's not dangerous, it's not broken, or knocked over. there's no exposed cables or wires. it just has one side missing. There's a map on the other side showing the same things. I suspect that the reason that it's expensive to fix is that each map is bespoke - even the ma...

Re: 'Legible London' sign outside Palace Wines

presumably crowdfuding and then getting it fixed ourselves would be more expensive than the cost to whoever maintains it (TfL or Lewisham) - so I suggest that if we do crowdfund then we also agree to send the money to Lewisham (or TFL) with the sole intention for them to use it on their contract wit...

Re: Starting-up a Barbers business in Sydenham

I live in Sydenham and work in Hackney. I almost always go to the barbers at the south end of Mare St, between the little Sainsbury, and the canal - can't remember the name, but it's next to The Last Tuesday Society, and they do a hair cut for £9, and usually wash hair as well for that price. A hair...

Re: Amazing family friendly days out 1.5 hrs from se26

The Museum of London, Docklands Musuem, at West India Quay, is also well worth a visit, with a 'play area' for kids, called Mudlarks, lots of entertaining things for under 10s to do. The museum is free entry, the Mudlarks is also free, but ticketed, as it's very popular. Also, if I haven't already m...

Surely the fact that we don't have McD's, Burger King, and KFC, on our high st. would be a positive thing?!

Re: Organ Donation

Is it Wales, whereby you're assumed to have agreed to organ donation unless specifically opted out? (or is it New Zealand?) anyway - imo a much better idea, any organ from anyone recently deceased can be re-used/donated, without consent, unless specifically requested not to by next of kin, or for me...

Is it because every time they change scene they all have to introduce each other by name? 'hello Dave! how are you doing today?' 'Fine thanks Mr Wallis - yourself? and I see you've brought your daughter along with you - Hello Delia!' 'Good Morning Mr Dennis' ...etc, etc just so that we know who's ta...

reporting it on fixmystreet will certainly get it noticed. suggesting that shops put up A-boards might stop the parking, but A-boards are obstructions to the footway, and need licences themselves, so the shopkeepers might, quite rightly, be reluctant at putting themselves at risk of fines for this. ...

good point, newer plugs have an easy change fuse - older ones you need to unscrew.

I think all of it should be open to be viewable by non members. It's not like we have anything to hide. There's no reason, in my opinion, why there should be a members only section, that you have to be registered and logged in to see. This forum is small enough as it is without putting sections of i...

Re: EU to UK plug adaptor fuse for laptop help pls

it sounds like it's only pulling 2.7A - so a 3A fuse would be fine, however if something goes wrong that the fuse needs to blow at 3A, it'll still blow when it gets above 13A, as these things tend not to stop at a certain amperage, so probably not really an issue. It's probably more effort than it's...

so firstly - is it illegal? Secondly - is it enfoceable? thirdly - who do we contact? fourthly - what information do we need to supply? if it's simply that anyone can take a photo (dated and timed), and email to Lewisham Council, then anyone of us could do that. If it needs an enforcement officer to...

Re: Bollards

Footway isn't designed to the same strengh as carriageway - it won't take vehicle movements for long, and will deteriorate quicker if driven on, that's parly why it's enforceable - might be worth sending the photos to Lewisham Council, to see what they can do about it. an alternative to bollards cou...
