The value of property seems to have been grossly misrepresented.
It suggests that semi-detached houses in Sydenham cost around 1.2 million! That simply is not the case.

Re: Sydenham & Forest Hill welcome new people
When I said "the solution to the housing crisis is not building more houses", I certainly did not mean "you solve the housing crisis by stopping building"!!! I meant: the housing crisis will not be solved by merely building more houses. It requires drastic changes in policy .You ...

Re: Sydenham & Forest Hill welcome new people
Sorry, didn't mean to derail it or send it off on a big tangent. It's hard to discuss even the most simple of aesthetic concerns about buildings without ending up asking fundamental questions about the part housing plays in the UK.

Re: And the next Admin will be ...
Assuming our house-move goes ahead and I do indeed become a Sydenham resident on Fri 9 October, I would be happy to have some involvement ... this forum has helped me make the decision to move to the area, after all.
But I really don't know what's required...

Re: Sydenham & Forest Hill welcome new people
The trouble is that most new developments don't even cater to the moderately well-off, let alone the poor. I'd be much more sympathetic to all these mega-blocks being constructed if any of the sardine-packed 1- and 2-bed identiflats were priced at less than £300,000. So it just seems like a lose-los...

If the property's great, then that's 3/4 of your decision made for you. Worrying what goes on by a railway bridge at night is never going to get you anywhere. We live in London: you don't want to be hanging around a railway bridge, underpass, public toilet, park, bandstand or heath in the middle of ...

We used a guy called Chris Eldridge, who's based in Bermondsey but covers most of south london, in the past. He's very good and reasonably priced. . However, I'm not sure if he's still working. It's possible he may have retried. His contact tel nos. are: 07544 781 610 and 07799 552 977 I initially f...

next time, could you rewind time back to 1993 when I was young, slim and good-looking (relatively speaking) and the world was full of possibility? thanks in advance

I lived in Brixton for almost 20 years. In fact I still do – I'm on this forum because, touch wood, we should be moving to Sydenham in about 1 month! From where, if my past form is anything to go on, we'll probably never move. During those 20 Brixton years, there were always routine murmurs about ho...

Menu looks good.
"Apple moose" should, I'm presuming, be apple mousse.
And it's chilli con carne, not chili con carnie.
But it all sounds v. tasty

Re: Need someone to deal with damp problem
There are a lot of horror stories about Kenwood out there if you Google. I think there is an element of pot luck – they are a massive company. But I think one reason why builders are often negative about companies like Kenwood is that there are two schools of thought about damp: Injecting stuff into...

If it does indeed have colonies of knotweed and any knotweed ends up on neighbouring land, the owners could be prosecuted.

I like the fact that the website says: "why not come say hell?"
Going for the satanist clientele no doubt.

We're in a similar position. Except we've already decided we want to live in Sydenham and have offered on a place. Infuriatingly, it is priced at "Offers in excess of..." and, having made an offer in excess of the stated figure, we've just been told they were wanting at least three times t...
