Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I hope the new owners will serve beers from our local breweries. Gypsy Hill - https://gipsyhillbrew.com/ The London Beer Factory - https://www.thelondonbeerfactory.com/ Brockley Brewery - http://brockleybrewery.co.uk/home/ The Inkspot Brewery - https://www.theinkspotbrewery.com Bullfinch Brewery - h...

Re: Lewisham wide 20mph roads
I just thought the council had a load of spare white paint to get rid of. Just like when they have a load of concrete and mini-roundabouts spring up in unexpected places.
The big question is if you manage to drive faster than 20mph in London then you are doing well.

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I mentioned about making a community pub many moons ago but it was ignored. I have mentioned it to a few of the local micro-breweries aka Gypsy Hill about them getting together and buying it. So if anyone has a closer relationship with any of them perhaps they could mention it again. It would be a g...

Re: Changing the speed limit
I just thought that Lewisham had a job lot of white paint they wanted to get rid off. Also the speed down the High Street cannot be more than 20mph anyway. A bit like those mini-roundabouts that spring up. I can just imagine the conversation: Worker 1: "Well, that was a good job done. What are ...

Re: What happened to the so-called Piaza
I just thought that it might have been redeveloped as part of the High Street regeneration.
Now, we just have a vacant piece of land with hoardings that have seen better days. It would be good to see it as a small market square instead of the small piaza opposite the railway station.

What happened to the so-called Piaza
I was wondering after the redevelopment of the High Street there were plans for a small piaza between Paperchase Taxation and the Shirin Cafe. So what's happened?
It is one of the eyesores on the high street and it would be a great place for the Farmers Market and other pop up events.

Re: Windmill Victory
When I read the latest 'What's Brewing' and saw that 'The Windmill' has been listed as an ACV (Asset of Community Value) my first question was 'Why?'. It wasn't a good pub to start with considering that Foxes and the Bricklayers Arms are close by. I went in there once and walked straight out again n...

Re: Keen cycle nuts in Sydenham ?
I was thinking of starting a British Cycling affiliated club for Sydenham (Sydenham Cycle Club). Currently there are only two of us who do a regular Sunday morning ride out to West Wickham and back. We start at 8am and are therefore back by 9am which leaves all of Sunday free to do what you want. It...

Thank You to Billings
I am sure like many of you would like to thank Billings for all their efforts in the run up to Christmas.
We ordered one of their three bird roasts and it was delicous so a massive thumbs up to them. Also their Christmas Sausages were lovely and if you are a pork pie lover, try theirs.

Blocked Zebra Crossings
As we are in the mood to moan at the congested traffic through Sydenham I would also like to have a go at drivers who seem to have got their license by collecting tokens from cereal packets. During the evening rush hour no one seems to recognise the zebra crossings at Kirkdale and Westwood Hill as m...

Re: Is It Faster to Cycle or Take Public Transport?
Definatly its quicker to cycle. I cycle from Cobbs Corner to Hyde Park and the journey takes me about 40 minutes and a distance of 10 miles. If I leave home at 6:30am then by bike I am at work by 7:10pm and then I have to change so I am at my desk by 7:30 most days. If I take the train from Sydenham...

The smell of tar!!
Tonight, 28th August, our house stank of tar from some sort of tarmac / resurfacing machine. What they are doing I do not know. There were no signs of any road works on my way home from work this evening. It means that we have had to close our windows for the time being and hopefully not have to was...

Pity it's not a 'John Lewis at Home' , we need some decent shops rather than the ubiquitous 'Stack them high, sell them cheap' stores such as Sports Direct.

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
There are a number of things I can add to this: 1: Small pubs do work and work well, last weekend I was in Birmingham and visited http://www.thewellingtonrealale.co.uk/ , it is a small pub and probably smaller than the Greyhound will be. It is always busy, they don't serve food but you are welcome t...

Re: Harbour 321 Restaurant NOW OPEN
We had fish and chips from them last night and I must say it beats both the chippy on Kirkdale and the one by The Dolphin. It was clean and modern inside with places to sit down and eat. The staff were friendly and chatty with the service being prompt and excellent. The fish was excellent but the ch...

New Lamp Posts
Has anyone noticed that they are now putting in new lamp posts in Sydenham. Although this is welcome why couldn't they have done it at the same time the pavement was relaid. Now, we have a lovely pavement with the street furniture properly cemented in but with the new lamp posts set in a load of bla...

Re: Gone - La Bonne? (Bakery)
I was in Kirkdale last Saturday, 9th March and it still had the sign up for refurbishment. It has probably suffered like the rest of the small shops through lack of sales. Shame as I tried to use them every weekend when I was at home. Now I have to suffer the factory rubbish that our local supermark...

Re: Support your local French bakery!
Although Kirkdale is good, you have to know that the bakery is there and open. It is also not conducive to passing trade which then boosts any small business. I believe Kirkdale was chosen because it sits half-way between Sydenham and Forest Hill but who walks past it during the day? They need to re...

Re: Locally listing ALL local pubs
I thought the Greyhound was also listed but look at what has happened there. Listing local pubs will not save them from redevelopment. What is needed is local Councillors to be more forceful when it comes to planning applications and not be so vague when making a decision.

Re: Cobbs Corner Roundabout
I tend to agree with Pat that we need to buy into the Sydenham regeneration scheme. With the improvements to the pavements and road the local council needs to address the occupation of the retail premisses and make sure that Sydenham gets the quality of retail establishments that it needs to regener...
