Re: Dulwich Woodhouse "events"

Demeaux, Are we a bit touchy about this subject? I can assure you my sensibilities are well and truly intact as they have nothing to do with mummies having coffee. However, I would prefer not to have to observe a dirty nappy being changed while I am eating. Sorry but does that somehow make me insens...

Re: Dulwich Woodhouse "events"

We've been to the Woodhouse twice since it reopened. The place looks amazing and garden is great for having a drink. However, on both occasions we ate and the food was awful. Service was also horrendous. There was a large group of prams in the garden with "mummies" having coffee. When one ...

Re: High Street Shut

We saw this as well. Haven't a clue what it was. We were trying get to kent house road and the police directed us down Girton Road where they were having a street party. We drove through apologising to the residents on the street, explaining 'the road is blocked'. I suspect they thought we were tryi...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

The building seems to be re-emerging!!!
I've always wondered, ever since the 'first' rebuild, why there seems to be what looks like a floor 3/4 of the way up the first floor windows. Almost as if there is a second floor being squeezed in that takes up part of the first floor windows.

They both look like excellent additions. I do love Trat Raff though. Great guy, excellent food and I feel he does everything with care.

Re: Hyde Housing are awful

@Leennewham: I think I know the very same fence. We have had a recurring problem with one of their tenants. Massive anti-social issues, damaging property, burning plastic and other rubbish in their garden, questionable practices around their children (boarding on what appears to be neglect and abuse...

Re: Tennis Courts in Mayow Park

The courts are in desperate need of some TLC. The courts in Sydenham Wells Park have been improved in the last couple years. It would seem fair to do the same for Mayow given that there seems to be such an increase of park users in Mayow.

Re: Taxi's parking on Mayow Road

This has been going on for years. At times the minicab drivers can be aggressive in their driving and antisocial in their actions. On several occasions BC (Before the Cafe) I would often walk past drivers urinating in the corner by the bus station or just in the entrance of the park. I’ve confronted...

Re: Traffic in the High Road

Ah loud music. I was involved in some research looking at the phenomenon when I was in graduate school in New York City. Turns out that it is usually a sign that the individual playing very loud music may feel the need to declare space as their own. It is, sort of, marking territory. It is often a r...

Re: Mayow Park Café Openings

i just walked past. I looks AMAZING!!!! I can't believe how good a job they have done. Couldn't see much of the inside but big lights hanging from the porch rafters, a great sign and about 6 large round teak tables and chairs!
Really impressed!

Re: New Aquatics Shop?

I can only speak for myself and I really don't think that I was trying to be negative rather than curious about shops that seem not to actually be filling a gap.
I'm more interested in the fervent, passion/rage and blanket assumptions thomas99 is presenting here. Where did that anger come from? :?

Re: New Aquatics Shop?

I was a bit surprised by the decision to put an aquatics shop 4 doors down from a pet shop that sells aquatics (not to mention a Pets At Home half a mile down the road. It reminds me of when an Italian restaurant was opened 6 doors down from Trattoria Raff. I will stick with Whites Pets and Trattori...

Re: NEW OPENINGS, NEW CLOSINGS

Sydenham seems to take one-half a step forward and fourteen or fifteen VERY large steps backwards. Yesterday I went into Mayow Park and saw how nice the new cafe is looking. I then turned the corner and saw bench after bench of abandoned beer cans and food containers. I walked past the tennis courts...

chicken shop with a difference

The other night I went into the new kebab/chicken shop on the high street -- just up from Slatters bakery. This is usually not my thing but the several times I'd past, I had been intrigued to see the massive grill in the front window. It was a pleasant surprise. They seem to cater for most. There's ...

Re: Cash-point blunder

Thanks for all this. I checked with Natwest. They did confirm that after 30 seconds the cash will be pulled back into the machine. But, it was about noon so the High Street was full and I suspect someone got to the machine before those 30 seconds! Apparently the cash did go out and several check-ins...

Cash-point blunder

I know there is little to no chance of recovering this but I thought I'd try. After attending a friend's very upsetting funeral today, I went to the natwest cash-point on the high street. There, not really in my right mind, I walked away leaving the cash in the machine. The people in the bank...

Re: Lights at Mayow Road

I think you may have misdiagnosed the problem. . Not exactly sure what that means but I'll leave it... I have seen cars rushing the lights, pushing in from right lane to left and visa versa and all types of aggressive behaviour to make it through. I agree the light are MUCH better but surely 15 sec...
