Re: sticky:Mural?
How widely? We never heard a summary of responses, the whole thread fell silent. Doing platform 1 doesn't prevent other murals happening anyway. It is, however, an eyesore that I would like to try and improve. It is really sad that every effort gets dragged into the general anti-syd Soc rants. Needl...
Re: sticky:Mural?
That is fine, as long as it gets the plan into motion. I am only banging on about Christmas to remind people that network rail knows in advance about some shutdowns, so a mural doesn't necessarily mean shutting the track down specially!
Re: sticky:Mural?
Thanks JGD, it would be great if you could ask around. I saw Jon's posts on other issues, but as he hasn't responded to people's enquiries for some time now, I presumed he had lost interest. I agree that the platform 1 spot is hard to deliver, but given that Network Rail want a mural done, and have ...
Re: sticky:Mural?
Thanks JGD. I asked for the Syd Soc contacts in Network Rail, but they no longer work there, and only you and Jon have access to the current contacts.
Re: sticky:Mural?
For heaven's sake Tim. This is not a conspiracy. I am local, and want to do something myself. I am willing to do the necessary work, so i asked to involve the Syd Soc, as they exist, have excellent connections, the ability to circulate a large proportion of the community on social media,, and are ge...

Re: Sydenham Assembly Wednesday 13th June 2018
Thank you Tim for your tweet; I was disappointed to not see you at the meeting, so you could have contributed. I have pasted below an email I have sent to the Syd Soc chair, in response to last night's events. Hi Annabel, ........ You did absolutely the right thing in apologising, given we had to ac...
Re: sticky:Mural?
Hi all. As JMLF seems to have gone quiet on this topic, can I have the contact details for the Network Rail coordinator on this? I want to get the platform 1 mural back on track, to cover the graffiti and cheer up the station platforms. I have agreed to gather some information on this for the Syd So...

Re: Sydenham Assembly Wednesday 13th June 2018
As you will see from the documents, if you go on the planning department website, the latest information from the planners is that they haven't been given the information, the material samples, or crucially the safety plans for dealing with contamination such as asbestos on the site. I would be happ...

Re: Sydenham Assembly Wednesday 13th June 2018
The Syd Soc did not flypost the conservation area. I did this personally, on my own account, and fully intend to remove them all tomorrow. You may have noticed they are tied on, so they can be removed easily. I believe the previous issues raised have been over businesses using semi permanent adverts...

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
I am sure we can get it approved. We don't need to spend much money on the plants, loads of people have plants they can donate. I am growing a lot of lavender cuttings and pinks, for example, that I could donate. What we need is to go for tough, long term planting, that won't need a lot of fussing o...

Re: More Trees for Sydenham High Street - can you help?
....... shade in hot weather........
How much needs to be raised for each tree? I seen to remember, the plan for the street upgrade was to have more trees, but it proved difficult to find appropriate sites in time. Don't they 'owe' us some trees from that budget?

Sydenham Station plans
The ongoing project to digitise historic plans and elevations held by Network Rail is producing some fascinating material. I put in a request, so Sydenham and Lower Sydenham material has jumped the queue, and been put online. The plans are quite shabby, having suffered over time, but contain some lo...

Re: Sydenham Assembly Wednesday 13th June 2018
I think the kindergarten needs screening from pollution as much as anything. Re the privacy, this particular school has always been quite paranoid about screening, hence planting a couple of dozen russian vine on the fence. I don't know if it is the law, but it is certainly a trend for primary schoo...
Re: sticky:Mural?
Honestly, I think a demo would be a mistake. We need to have an open discussion first, with everyone allowed to contribute their opinions. Do we know how much money the crowdfunding raised? Is it the council view or the lack of public support that has put this project on hold? The assembly is a good...

My objection to the Boundaries planning application: please do object yourself online. Difficult to contain yourself to 1,000 characters, and cover all the issues........ "I object strenuously to this application, which bears no relation to the permitted design. Greatly increased height and bul...

Greatly increased height and bulk; the building now lacks the proportions, articulation and detail of the original. PVC windows set flush, their format, col...

Re: The Monstrosity - ie St Philp Neri school building
Lewisham has acknowledging that there are planning breaches on the St Philip Neri school redevelopment. Chris Best writes in the new Syd Soc newsletter, on page 4. "I know a number of residents are concerned with the look of the new Our Lady and At Philip Neri School. The planning department is...
