Re: What is the law about trees in conservation areas?
Thank you - very helpful replies. I didn't even consider that removing the tree might make things worse.

What is the law about trees in conservation areas?
Just wondering if anyone knows exactly what one has to do about cutting down a tree that's in a conservation area. It's in a garden that adjoins my building and the tree is very very close to my wall. It has cracked the wall of its own property quite extensively and now my house and my next door nei...

Re: Billings - still impressed
It would be brilliant if they turned that disused pavillion into a cafe. They could use the produce from the community garden to make lovely organic dishes.

I saw two men breaking the lock on the door to the shop a couple of days ago...
I'd been looking forward to this place opening for ages, I hope it's not over before it's even begun.

Re: CINEMAS
The Hob in Forest Hill shows films once a month - and does mum and baby screenings too during the day (under-1s only). Email emma@edcomedy.com for what's on. This month they showed Wish You Were Here.

Re: Petition to save Sydenham baby gym
The campaign has been successful to a degree - we've managed to persuade Childrens' Services to rent the hall by the hour so the baby gym will continue until the end of summer term but after that it'll go - along with a lot of their universal services. I attended a consultation meeting today where t...

Re: Petition to save Sydenham baby gym
I have no idea - it's possible if the owners find they can't lease it to someone else annually. Perhaps they will rent it out on an hourly basis now. Even if that's the case, Lewisham won't consider paying more than a token amount to hire somewhere.

Re: Petition to save Sydenham baby gym
They are running an article in the South London Press tomorrow (Friday 11th) about the closure, the flawed consultation process and our campaign to keep Baby Gym going in Sydenham. Poppy - it's on from 10-12 on Wednesdays at Sydenham Hill Community Hall (on Sydenham Hill, in the estate opposite the ...

Re: Closure of Sydenham Hill Community Hall?
Ok, I finally spoke to someone at Surestart who knows what's going on. It seems that the hall is owned by a private company and leased by either Surestart or Lewisham Council directly, I'm not clear on that point. They pay £14,500 per annum for the lease and because of the reduced budget they can't ...

Re: Closure of Sydenham Hill Community Hall?
Well I asked at the Assembly yesterday and Chris didn't know but they took my email address and hopefully I'll hear soon. Another person present (who attends a group there) had also been told that the hall was shutting down.
I'll let you know as soon as I have a response from the Council.

Closure of Sydenham Hill Community Hall?
I heard yesterday that the council are closing down Sydenham Hill Community Hall and stopping the childrens' activities (rhyme time and baby gym) that take place there.
