Re: Safe cycling?
I cycle frequently in London now commuting from Sydenham to Kingston. Like any form of transport on London Roads it is about thinking ahead assuming that everyone else is an idiot and has no thought for anyone other than themselves. It is also worth remembering that the most dangerous thing to do is...

Re: Housing market success and failure
Well there may be a number of reasons. However in the vaste majority of cases the nomimation from the property will come fron the Council and not from the market. Lewisham I think operate a choice based lettings system, giving usually homesless families some choice about where they live. Even so typ...

Re: Lewisham Council - £60m of spending cuts!
There is actually no reason why individual Councils cannot negotiate pay freezes/cuts with their employees. If you look at vaious employeres you will see that their salary bans vary widly from one to another. But the reality is that even big cuts would not save all the money that was being imposed o...

Have to say though I objected to the plans I am glad they have started now so that the area looks bette...

If anyone is interested in what the cherry pickers are doing in the Greyhound car park they are to illustrate the height of the buildings to be constructed on the site. I am sorry but I simply do not believe that anything this tall (and ugly) can enhance a conservation area, and not dominate and ove...

Let me assure you that the petition of the people that really count, the local people who are directly affected is going really well and I can promise a very large presence of people opposed to these plans at the committee. People are both upset and angry about this proposal and they will come and s...

I think the debate over the Greyhound building is over and whilst I think it wrong accept it. However I do not accept that the residents of PHG should have a building foisted on them that will devestate their outlook and quality of life just because someone cannot be imaginative enough to come up wi...

Gaz - from my point of view one storey lower would make all the difference. It would mean the blocks were at roughly the same height as the existing. Alternatively the scheme could be modified by reducing the hieight where the existing building is and keeping to the existing building line and them s...

There are a number of points I need to make here and I speak as someone with experience of both sumitting planning applications and in the deep past as the Chair of a planning committee in dealing with them. Planning applications are never a take it or leave it matter. Frequently planning applicatio...

The planning application is in and the public consultation is under way and closes on 20 April. It is different from the original plans - 42 flats, shops, bars and restaurants. 9 parking spaces for all of that but room for 56 bikes! The building line to the rear of the site next to Peak Hill Gardens...

Hey, do you know what I spent the last hour doing? - clearing a path along Peak Hill Gardens so that I and the commuters don't kill themselves. Sorry but I only cleared from my house to Spring Hill (a neighbour also did a short section) out of pure self interest, as I walk that way in the morning, b...
