Re: Religious Rappers on the High Street

No - not conventional music Eagle - just decently performed music of some merit of any culture - the more avant garde the better. Bach, Mozart et all were unconventional in their day. They got away with it because it was great and history has vindicated it. Its the music of happy clappy churches tha...

Re: Religious Rappers on the High Street

Oh what's happened to the religion that brought us Bach's Organ Music, Mozart's Requiem and even Charles Wesley's stomping tunes. Performed by great artists, a decent organ or even the Sally Ally. All good value whether you believe or not. Now this, and, if you are a Radio 4 listener - an all too fr...

Re: Advice needed re care homes in Sydenham

My heart goes out to you. Making these lifechanging decisions on behalf of somebody so close is really hard. I'm still going through it too. First decision is the level of care needed. This breaks down roughly into 'Residential Care' and 'Nursing Care'. The second is much more expensive. It can be d...

The guy who posted this video was complaining that this hump damages vehicles of those who drive too fast where school kids have to cross.

Re: BT super-fast broadband, Sydenham gets a look in

I'm on the 40mb sort-of-superfast and it's plenty fast for me. I can watch iplayer like it's live tv - no buffering at all. Previously I had to download the programmes and then watch them. Aha - but are with an ISP like BT or Virgin who 'traffic shape'? A euphenism for restricting your thruput at b...

BT Broadband may be letting you down (again). Just done a check with my ISP (which uses the same BT Openreach infrastructure). This is the result: Results based on telephone number: 0208778xxxx Broadband Services Estimated Maximum Download Speed*: 12.5Mbps Line enabled for "up to 20 Mbps":...

However when wine & beer was comparitively expensive from the off licence - we brewed our own. It was the cheap supermarket plonk that killed that activity. Stick the price back up and I predict home brewing will re-emerge. I'm not sure you want kids handling beer by the gallon ... IMHO opinion ...

I presume you are just being provocative Mike about Waitrose. They are a great company with real ethics and standards. An example was at the Beckenham Waitrose. Retailers are supposed to not discriminate in their employment policies about disabled people - but they do. If disabled people are lucky ...

Re: Casandara Shop will soon change to Sue Ryder Charity Sho

We do not receive any government funding unlike health and kids charities. The RSPCA receives a huge amount of government funding implicit and explicit. Think Gift-Aid - that is the government directly funding you from the taxes of the working population. I'm not knocking that but to think that the...

Re: Casandara Shop will soon change to Sue Ryder Charity Sho

Many of the people who live in Sydenham rely on the local charities for support and unless income is constant charities would be unable to sustain such services. You also need to look at it from the other angle. The disappearance of another enterprise in the town takes with it employment, no longer...

Fraes with an Oyster surely are about right. Any subsidy has to come from the council tax. Any choice of transport currently implies a subsidy from the taxpayer. Is it right to shift it away from public to private transport considering the environmental impact and ability to pay? Remember over the ...

AFAIK LAFitness stop you doing this by having your photo linked to your card. This flashes up on the screen when you check-in. Re: What is the best way to get to UCL?

Yes Robin - that is the way i used to go until they extended to Overground to H&I. The H&C is not reliable with big gaps, having to wait in the cold at Whitechapel and often gets stalled at Aldgate waiting for the Circle Line. Whereas if you stay on to H&I you go straight underground to ...

Re: What is the best way to get to UCL?

The cheapest, relatively speedy and not quite obvious way from Sydenham station is to take the Overground to Highbury & Islington and then take the Victoria Line south to Warren Street. Otherwise take Southern to London Bridge and the Northern Line to Euston Station. UCL is bounded by Warren Str...
