Re: Puzzling aspects of the high street

I was hoping to open a retail offer last year and did a lot of research, projections etc and I found the largest obstacle was rents. I did find somewhere that would have been economically viable with a great location but the terms were frankly absurd and it led to me to believe that the agent didn't...

Re: Sydenham road traffic seems permanently at a standstill!

Yes it is NEW! and it is down to the phasing, or lack of it, on the temporary lights at the Kent House Road junction. I first noticed a build up of traffic coming from Bell Green past the library on Sunday when going in the opposite direction. I then drove to Sainsbury's on Monday night and found it...

Mayo Road accident this morning

While rushing to the station this morning I saw six ambulances, two police cars and Bus at the junction of Mayo and Sydenham Roads. Does anyone know what happened please? No mention of it in any media. As an aside; it got me thinking of that serious accident involving a cycle some while ago. I was w...

Re: Front door- Where to buy?

I would not recommend the place Stuart mentions. I bought an internal door from them a few years ago and I still think I was conned. Fitter was useless as well. I got my front door from Dawes for Doors which is now http://www.distinguishdoors.co/. and very nice is it is too. People who fitted it wer...

Ted Johnson of Knighton Park Road is recommended by myself and several others. His number is 0755 750 7554. Tell him his neighbour Simon recommended him.

Re: SYDENHAM'S POCKET PARKS

I have to say I think there is a design fault with the way the Venner and Queensthorpe squares are laid out, regarding performing arts. The trees, lights and benches are great when the squares are empty, but you could not have a significant performance as they would all get in the way. Not really th...

Has a very large garden for the street though, but agree; 660 is a bit toppy.

Re: Crystal Palace Park Project: drop-in sessions this Satur

I've noticed the picture used cuts off a large part of the park, where currently there is a large flat grassed area. Perhaps they plan to turn that into a dirty great park, appeasing Sid and local residents.

Re: Christmas tree

I saw it tonight and initially thought it had been left up too long. But I then realised how good it looked where it was and thought it would be great if it was left there to grow over the coming years. Sadly it appears the council haven't got around to taking it away. Wouldn't it be great if we had...

Re: Sydenham High Street needs a bike shop

While the area is apparently well served with bike shops, it does seem only a matter of time before one opens in Sydenham. Crystal Palace has three, Penge and Beckenham one apiece, Catford has one plus Halfords and Finches in Forest Hill sells bikes. In order to succeed, a new bike shop would need t...

I think there should be a ceremony of some sort. They must be very special barriers considering how long it's taken to install them. That said, I wouldn't get up at that ungodly hour to attend if there was one.

Re: Dangerous Drivers on Lawrie Park Road - HOW TO STOP THEM

There's loads of coppers Eagle, they're just busy in Central London at the moment telling people on bikes to wear day glo clothing. You can't expect them to commit resources to stopping people rat running at 50 mph and assaulting pedestrians. You make a good point HB. Typical Met response to the re...

Re: Traffic in the High Road

You really couldn't make it up, could you? We have a traffic management system that is built in New Zealand, a country well known for its traffic jams! Seriously though, the light phasing, or lack of it, is seriously frustrating. I was thinking, while waiting for an eternity on Westow Hill, that per...

Re: Wimpy gone

FOBTs are a scourge on the high street and an evil invention, the crack cocaine of gambling. :( You can lay the blame for them (FOBTs) on the high street squarely on the shoulders of Dulwich MP Tessa Jowell, whose useless 2005 Gambling Act allowed them in the first place. It is rather amusing seein...

I buy my cycle wear from Wiggle and Evans, wouldn't touch Aldi with a barge pole. Wasn't aware of Aldi's poor labour rights record, for me the whole Aldi concept is, well, cheap.
