Santa Worm & Sydenham Forum

You may have heard reports of a new Internet worm called Santy. Since December 20th this has been attacking Bulletin Boards using the popular phpBB software. Sydenham Town Forum runs on phpBB but probably because of some defensive mechanisms already in place we have not yet been defaced as many othe...

Sorry Private Messaging is disabled on this board - but Beltwood's email address is on their website if anyone wants to take up any issue directly.

Dare I say to everyone - can we keep this discussion cool?

Megan, I hope you don't mind me saying this and maybe I have overinterpreted what you said. But if you suspect GT of something - rather than appear to assert it - would it not be wiser just to simply ask the question - "Do you have an interest in the Club?" Vigorous debate, diifferences of...

Sydenham Property Market - Information needed

A researcher from a national institution is looking for people who have gained or lost value recently in the Sydenham property market. If you have bought and are concerned about the shape of the market; or have taken out very large mortgages or are having problems affording because of the recent int...

Christmas Cometh to Sydenham

Sydenham Town will soon be celebrating Christmas. Naff reindeer on the frontpage, nodding Father Christmas and anything else to brighten the place up now Lewisham appear to have decided we don't deserve Christmas lighting! We want to have a page devoted to Christmas events in Sydenham. So if you are...

Yes Lewisham have done it again - making a bad situation even worse. When the crossing was open you couldn't see the beacons. Now it is closed they have just made the beacons visible causing even more confusion to motorists. All this when presumably the final resting place of the crossing (and our h...

SE23.com is back up. It now has more explicit guidelines - one of which precludes discussion on guidelines and administration - so at least they are now being upfront and open about it.

Yes SE23.com is currently down. The server (at webfusion/hosteurope) is up which is strange. This has been verified via various IPs so it is not a block. I'll keep an eye on it. BTW I saw George's posting. It was the third I have seen asking the same questions. Each has been removed. You might not l...

The SE23.com webmaster is not anonymous. I found him easily enough (his name & address are in the public domain) and he appears to be a pleasant chap. Why not try and work out the problem directly with him? The invitation here was to discuss Sydenham, SE26 or thereabouts. I don't think Honor Oak...

I agree with you Steve. I need to modify the template and make sure it is not used for the original posting (when it is necessary). The problem is that I appear to have already broken the HTML which is why the attribute boxes are not working (see seperate eror report). I need to backtrack and sort t...

Quotes & highlighting do not work

There is a known problem with the quoting facility on this Forum. It is a bit difficult to fix and may take some time.

It also effects hypertext links. The good news is if you just put the http://forum.sydenham.org.uk link in like that it works!

Ad policy - your input needed

I have removed the Ad forums. This because: * They attracted no legitimate posts * They did attract undesired posts which had to be removed I would appreciate input as to what the forum policy should be. I don't like censoring anything and will seek not to do so for any genuine discussion item. For ...

I have deleted the Ads category as it had received no posts since launch. This further slims down the Forum to make browsing easier and faster.

Forum changes

Easier Registration ---------------------- After some helpful offline comments I decided to slim down 'Registration' to the absolute minimum. Gone is the long winded legalese and over/under13 stuff. You now only have to choose a username (any name identifiable or not), an email address so you can re...

SE23.com is an actively moderated forum. The posting rules say no ads/recommendations so I guess they consider this non-negotiable. Hence it is not an issue for discussion and off topic stuff gets deleted and repeat offenders get banned. The posting rules here are more relaxed. I hope people want ab...

The training courses run on your courts are excellent. But when you are trying to slot the ball in that narrow window between the top of the net and the top of the wirenetting - what you see on the neighbouring courts looks very competitive! Or do you have a nicer turn of phrase I could substitute :...

Yes - I was planning a Sport & Leisure section. We have a page on walking and I have a personal interest in cycling so that should not be too far away. It is a case of building up a critical mass of clubs etc. There are some organisations listed in the community section http://www.sydenham.org.u...
