Re: advice about wasp nest
I'd suggest you have an expert take a look. My son when young was almost stung when he retrieved a golf ball from a dent in the grass on a golf course, that turned out to be a wasp nest since many flew out! I was stung once by a wasp and my whole leg swelled up, so I personally wouldn't take any cha...

Notice of Silverdale traffic restriction from 29 Jul
A vague notice is attached to a post at the station alleyway which says that a restriction will apply from 29 Jul for three months. It's marked as a draft. It doesn't say which stretch of road or give detail as to why.
As the 29th is tomorrow, Monday, maybe something will happen, or not...

Re: Forest Hill Pools
John H is right - that we the public are entitled to facilities that are safe and clean and kept in good condition. It is shameful and sparticus is right to draw it to our attention. I'm not a lawyer but I don't see why a contract can't be terminated if there has been a significant breach of its pro...

Re: Freeview reception problems?
ITV is also transmitted by Crystal Palace so it's odd you can get that but not BBC channels. Do you have an indoor aerial, i.e. set top? If so, do you have one of the flat panel ones as opposed to the metal ring or spiky array? Mine is a flat panel (I bought one with a longer lead to ensure it would...
Re: SCAMS
I've received two or three messages on my landline answerphone that an SMS message awaits, but it starts immediately so I only hear the tail end after the beep has beeped asking me to press buttons. The message says that my SMS incoming message will be deleted after a day, implying an urgency that s...

Re: Aeroplane sky trails
Yes, great pic and an upside down rainbow too isn't it? Strange. My mystery of "why three directions" I mentioned, might have a simple answer as I saw one craft West to East bank sharply North almost at a right angle, so probably joined another path. Interesting sight over Mayow Park this ...

Re: Seriously, where can we talk about politics?
There are lots of political items that could be discussed to the n th degree but what's the point when the country has been and still is in ongoing stasis? Let's see, leadership contests (Tories, Lib Dems and maybe Labour), summer recess of parliament and EU, then conference season). What to say? I ...

Re: Aeroplane sky trails
seems an odd thing to start a post about. I saw a leaf on the floor the other day Or any other random thoughts Trails caught my attention once before recently on a clear day for the same reason, not because aeroplanes leave trails but that they made a perfect 6-point star (or three directions to fo...

Re: Disability access
This is a complete aside. I used to rarely buy celeriac because I can't cut through it. However, Fresh 'n Fruity will cut it for you if you ask. (Take some lemon juice as it oxidizes once cut.) Also, Touchwood Pharmacy used to have ordinary aerosol push buttons and could replace the cover-type push ...

I uphold the initiative - a bit of focussed think-tank lateral thinking could yield valuable suggestions that could be "packaged" to promote. Presumably it's already been established from various institutes what differently disabled people themselves would like to see, so are looking for s...

Now the trails are dissipating, they look like clouds.
Anyone know exactly what is being left behind in what was otherwise a clear blue sky?

Aeroplane sky trails
Just noticed that the sky was perfect a few minutes ago to see the myriad criss-crossing of jet trails left behind and even see aeroplanes leaving new trails.
Just thought I'd mention it.

Re: Moving to Sydenham
Hi 2lai. Glad to hear you haven't been put off. I like living here so my views will be biased. Objectively, you could sit in a cafe window seat and watch the world go by for a while. You'll see a wholly mixed bunch of people and lots of life on Sydenham Road during the day, so not a deserted commute...

Re: Refurb at the station / bye bye turdis
It is good news about the proposed flower planters, if they'll be maintained. Hopefully extra leaflets won't mean extra litter. If the loo goes completely, it's easy to guess what will happen instead. As far as I'm aware, it's only the unimaginative look and placement of the loo that is in question,...

Re: Government to pay £200m for safer cladding
Surely the blame and cost should eventually lie with those who sanctioned the use of cladding (if like Grenfell's) which in its manufacturer's instructions said should be used to no greater height than eight stories? I'm truly happy that monetary help might now be on its way for owner/occupiers and ...

Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park
JGD, I don't know, but the timeline is more likely to be "allowed if used elsewhere until proof it shouldn't be used". This link (they're not hard to find in the sense that it ain't just me or the meagre number of petition signers) shows glyphosate is banned in several countries: https://w...

Re: Stop the use of Roundup in Mayow Park
JGD, I didn't start the petition, seemingly Iris Borgers did, however, I've worried about glyphosate use for a few years since the first reports started to come out about its potential harm. If people can spread the word to a larger audience, I hope they will. I did get feedback from one person that...

Re: What's happened to SEE3?
I recall a poster would ask regularly what happened to the funding ascribed to SEE3, but never got very far. Maybe one of current councillors can find out what the situation is, preferably obtaining confirmatory accounts as to where the money and any residual unspent money went?

Re: Virgin broadband down in Lewisham
I've danced with Virgin Media before today as there's no way in my view that businesses would put up with a "down" service for days, let alone weeks. I've found that my line from the nearby box is unreliable, so you should get them to send an engineer to test your connection irrespective o...
