I wonder if Sydenham's having been spared the worst of it is because we don't have the high value shops here with the hd tvs and expensive trainers and the like. Or is it simply a matter of time?
Be careful.

Re: Post all the news of the Riots here (To make it easy)
I've been in quite a few riots over the years on the news beat and they are utterly terrifying. There's a collective mob intelligence that takes effect and can cause normally well behaved people to act irrationally as they are enveloped by the group dynamic. I guess the serotonin levels go through t...

I'm a member at LIP. I went to one Sydenham/Forest Hill gathering but none after that. But I've been a pro shooter for nearly 20 years and so not a good fit. The LIP is the way to go however as there are various other functions that might interest you. I may go and visit the Greenwich group. There's...

Re: LIVE MUSIC AT THE GOLDEN LION
My two boys, only 6 and 9 are keen to experience live jazz but I'm struggling to find venues suitable for children. Some good concerts coming up at the Barbican and Southbank but they are either late or expensive. Will try to get to some weekend matinee shows over the coming months though. Does anyo...
Re: kirkdale
George the barber is brilliant. Always does a great job on my two sons' scalps. And mine. He's also great fun. The two boys always enjoy speaking with him and he often asks after them.

Brownfield site / plot
This is a long shot. Do brownfield plots ever come up for sale in Sydenham? Would be interested in a plot of brownfield land or a plot with an old building that would best be demolished. Small, about an average size plot as would feature a typical house. Where would I begin? Thank you. Paul Treacy.

Re: New bakery in Kirkdale
Got three loaves in there this morning along with a danish and four croisants. Loaves in freezer now along with the croisants. Just gobbled the danish. I'll be a regular even though I've taken to making my own bread 2 or 3 times a month. I find myself backing away from Sainsbury's delivery and shopp...

Re: What do we call someone from Sydenham?
As said above, "a Londoner" . Perfect. However, to other Londoners we'd have to have something to call ourselves. Personally, I like Sydenhamers. Or should that be Sydenhammers ? Not at all crazy about Sydenhamista or such like. Nor Sydenhamite, which sounds like some sort of rock formatio...

W/end junior footy training Crystal Palace Park?
Hello Finding it difficult to zero in on the various junior football training activities I see in Crystal Palace Park. Can anyone advise? My sons are taking a break from swimming for a term and would love to do some football training in the mean time. Thank you. Paul Treacy photo@paultreacy.com +447...

London Villages Project (photography)
I'm on the look out for ideas for a photographic project in Sydenham for the London Villages Project within the London Independent Photography group. I will continue to shoot for my blog, http://sydenhamshots.blogspot.com which tends to be random photographs I make will simple going about my daily a...

Re: New “shop” on Sydenham Road
Religious people do not have a monopoly on compassion for humankind. I'm quite sure that many of them think they do. My wife and I spent a few weeks travelling with my uncle in Kenya where he has been a missionary priest since the early 60's. On the last night of our stay he finally brought up the s...

Re: New “shop” on Sydenham Road
I was confronted by two Jesus Freaks (and I won't apologise for that term) as I headed out my door to fetch my two wee lads from school. Told them I was on my way to school and that I was a militant atheist. It caused them to pause for a moment. I have no respect for religious beliefs but I do respe...

"vs: staying as a daft park with monsters, maze and fishing lake"
Sums it up perfectly. That's what makes CPP so delightful. All it needs now is the tree top walkway that was part of the big proposal. Can't see that happening though. Pity.

Re: Keen cycle nuts in Sydenham ?
I wear a grotty yellow workers day glo thing from a gardening gig years ago and a blue cycle helmet and can be seen on an old grey mountain bike with road tires and a yellow bag slung over my shoulder at any time of day most likely on the high street going a little too fast. I gave up on cars years ...

Re: Newlands Park Murder?
How utterly tragic. For the family of the victim and his friends. But also for the students he would have had. There are far too few male teachers. In fact, too few male teachers is one of the societal problems that contributes to awful crimes such as this. Too many young males growing up without ac...
