Re: Lewisham Council housing consultation

... So as a work-around, it is recommended that if you choose to engage, make a local copy of your response page-by-page. ... This form might be different but the usual LBL site, e.g. council tax etc, uses drop-down boxes of extendable length that don't print or don't print correctly as they omit m...

Re: 242 kirkdale road

I could be talking through my hat but I'd have thought the land registry would show the legal ownership. Alternatively, the council tends to know who owns which commercial premises, but which department would tell you I don't know.

Re: Woodfall's Golden 50

If you need better quality lenses, e.g. thinner or lightweight ones or with corrections, they tend to be the same price at any optician (supplier catalogue price) so good service and after-sale service when paying a lot is valuable in itself - and Woodfall's are very good. They do sell inexpensive l...

Oh, is that what it was? At first I thought it was the usual 4.58am jet aircraft but the noise lasted longer, then I heard the jet, so wondered what it was.

Re: Winterval greetings

Hi Robin Orton, it's the complaint made by those of, ahem, a temporarily fragile disposition that the noise the kitten's making is unbearable. Remedies like a full English brekkie, Bloody Mary or hair of the dog do work incidentally, all having logical science reasons why one or other will work for ...

Happy Hangover everyone 8) Stop that kitten playing with a ball of wool. <-Yes, that old chestnut, but never mind as we have a whole new decade now to post better jokes :D

All good wishes for '20s.

Re: Winterval greetings

Indeed. Perhaps a rousing sing song?

Deck the halls with boughs of holly

Altogether now ...

Fa la la la laaah, la la lah la laaah

Now's the season to be jolly

Be jolly people! Or else...

Luv ya all :)

Many thanks Stuart. It might be better for me to concentrate on windows and figure out a different alternative for the doors.

Re: Theft in broad daylight

Honestly, it's in The Times for any doubters: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/mattresses-are-the-new-target-for-thieves-at-five-star-hotels-fs8d9kml3 and elsewhere in print. I imagine it's either dead of night with ground floor windows likely to be left open or more likely people in overalls with...

Re: Replacing windows

I could do with a secondary whatever for a French double door which has a concrete lintel. How are the fixings put on since you're not supposed to drill into concrete (can cause stress fractures)?

The Sainsbury shop set behind The Greyhound used to have a trolley for food gifts. I haven't been in lately, but it was by the cashier checkout so just inside the main entrance door.

Re: Black cabbies in celebration.....

Or that there are Ubers floating about in south London and other non central areas to begin with. Seemingly Ubers are discriminated against in central London as they are subject to the congestion charge which black cabs are exempt from. However, I'm sure Uber will succeed in their appeal. No politic...

Re: Black cabbies in celebration.....

alywin, I think black cabs can refuse fares if they're going home as not obliged to take people if not on their route home. Surprising how many are homeward bound at the mere mention of Sarf London. Uber is global and is in debt for billions with a hugely inflated share price so they'll be reluctant...

Re: PFC Penge Food Centre Sydenham Road

It's over two years since mistakes were reported in this thread. I suggest that people ask for their change to be put on the counter then always say "Is that right?". (Busy yourself with purse/wallet or ingredient label so no hands.) Also ask for a till receipt if one is not offered, which...

Re: Coop Forest Hill

Just out of interest, does this new one have those ridiculously tall shelves, as the Syd. Rd. one did after a refit making shopping there a real chore having to keep needing an assistant's help? I wonder if that was part of its downfall. You mention lots of space - is it user friendly?

Re: Coop Forest Hill

If austerity really is easing the new Co-op ought to do well as they are good as long as no immediate competition will kill it on price competition. Sydenham Road closed at a time when the Co-op bank was struggling so lots were closed but it was maybe 20% or even 30% higher price on some things comp...

Re: Fatal Accident Outside Catford Station

A pity to note - apart from in Stuart's contributions - the usual victim blaming, ignorance, and total lack of any kind of evidence based solution. These incidents will continue to happen as long as we tolerate the sharing of road space between people on bikes, and people driving large lorries with...
