Re: Labour landslide

Hi Chris - just want to stand up for the quieter majority of people that support the LTNs even if they don't live in them. I hope you continue to introduces measures to improve air quality and make streets more friendly for pedestrians and cyclists. (Can I suggest pedestrianising Sydenham Station A...

The Lewisham Labour Party manifesto is here https://www.lewishamlabour.com/our-manifesto/ and we are happy to talk about our plans to improve ...

Re: Labour landslide

Not just Sydenham & Forest Hill but in most wards the Greens came in second. They were only 100 or so votes short of their first seat. Still way to go but the only party who could possibly hold the Labour whip to account if LibDems & Tories are prepared to vote tactically next time. May be ...

Labour landslide

Hi all, So labour won the local and mayoral elections and the greens pushed the tories into 3rd place and increased their vote by 50% :D I plan to hold the council to account this term and will drill down on every decision made for lower Sydenham. Whats on your list? Mine is Arboculture - A lime tre...

Re: Its not over

The 1953 deaths this week are higher than the Jan 2022 peak and this is before easter break. No matter what happens there will not be a lockdown unless there is a variant that kills 18-35 abc1. Surely your not advocating another lockdown? I don't think the public have the appetite for that. Sure, ca...

Re: Its not over

I was just discussing this the other day. I currently know 8 people with Covid... that's more than at any time during the pandemic. Sorry to hear that. The lifting of restrictions to distract from partygate is the most malicious act of self interest Ive seen in a government. Actually charging for t...

Its not over

Hi all, the voice of doom and gloom here! 14 people died of covid this week, thats more that any other time in the pandemic. There is a new variant called XE a combination of delta and omicron and its seems to be escaping the vaccine. So if you’re high risk like me best to get a pp3 mask and wear it...

The lifting of restrictions is a political move and the only thing worse is the silence from Labour, what is the point of them? Another year in lockdown for me and Im truly grateful to have the choice, many vulnerable people will have an avoidable death this year.

Re: Masks (again!)

Repeated my trip to the Royal Opera last night. Shocked that on our Overground carriage only 20/30% mask compliant. A little better on District Line. More shocking was the Opera House. 99% had slipped to about 70% despite repeated requests. Even more shocking was the HIGHEST compliance of the day s...

Re: Masks (again!)

The good news is that the uk infection rates continues to plumet unlike the rest of Europe Probably as there are no tests available and according to this report cases are under reported. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/covid-cases-christmas-ons-figures-b1998650.html The changes will kill ...

Re: Masks (again!)

I'll be following the science. Went to Covent Garden this afternoon. Spotted 2 out of 2,000 not wearing masks. Couldn't say the same for the train journeys. Why can we have 99.9% compliance in one place and flagrant disregard of science, the current law and vulnerable people in others? Stuart I won...

Hi all just checking if anyone will be changing their behaviour on the 27th? For me its business as usual, masks and distance but I think that the anti maskers will not be impressed.

Meanwhile on a Lewisham Council estate just over the border from you (at edge of Thorpewood Avenue SE26 and Featherstone Avenue SE23 - to be precise, SE23 3YW Shackleton Close estate) an approx. 90 flat estate with a mix of Council tenants and private leaseholders/residents had to wait yet another ...

Re: Bin collection

I am used to the bins being collected at least a day late after public holidays, so I didn't bother putting mine out on its normally designated day. When I checked online that day to see if the delay was going to be 1 or 2 days I was horrified Yes that is usually the case so Im curious why this hap...

Re: Train services - Southern - disruption till 10th January

This seems pretty drastic affecting services to Victoria and our own Southern Service via Sydenham to London Bridge. Covid related. There will be no Southern or Gatwick Express services at London Victoria, Battersea Park, Clapham Junction or Wandsworth Common until Monday 10 January. Stopping servi...

Bin collection

Hi all I hope you had a great christmas and are covid free. To my surprise my bins were emptied yesterday which was essentially boxing day and it makes absolutely no sense. Many people have left Sydenham so there is less waste and no urgency. I want this nonsense to stop, our waste collectors have d...

Re: (Proper) Fibre Broadband now live in Sydenham

If you've had Community Fibre digging on your road recently, you may find you're now able to place an order for 'proper' Fibre to the Premises (FTTP) broadband. They have a six months free offer on at the moment, and cover speeds up to 1Gbps. I've seen them on the roads around the library over the ...
