Re: Budgens

Not quite Phillip Green territory but I get your drift. Are we still the only London postcode without a Co-op? Pretty annoyed at the screw-up at the Bank who were brilliant to me for 40 years. And am I alone in also being annoyed the Green Co-op has spent a load of dosh going Tory Blue? Up the Divi...

Re: Budgens

The Co-op is buying Budgen stores direct from Booker which obviously doesn't include Sydenham. But they know they can trade our store better than FROL so might they be tempted to pick up the pieces from the Administrators if the price is right? https://www.insidermedia.com/insider/national/co-op-bu...

Re: Budgens

It's a weird size Bludgeons. It seems bigger than the average mini-supermarche and smaller than a big one - slightly between two stools and so any mainstream retailer might find it tough to fit in with their current model? Sainsbury's in FH or Penge high st are a bit bigger, but they don't need anot...

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road

I just received this from Mosaic, who are behind the build: "154-158 Sydenham Road has not hit the target of Spring 2017 due to planning issues, in turn planning permission not being granted in the timeframes expected . We are still working with our consultants and liaising with Lewisham Counci...

Re: Budgens

I see this morning that Tesco has bought Booker - owner of Bludgeons and Londis - two classy outfits.
Hopefully they will sell off the Bludgeons on the High St....back to Coop or someone

Re: In praise of Sydenham High Street

Agreed on the cake store - their bread is pretty good, although I have a weakness for the odd Lidl baguette... I wouldn't mind seeing a bit more in the sourdough dept, and I know that is horridly middle class, but I reckon there is a market for it. They used to have some but have stopped it seems. I...

Re: Seeking developers/biz owners/entrepreneurs for SE6 site

Interesting that they have included those whizzy new solar tiles on the East elevation - surely the west side will get more sun, the south side being unavailable? Weird

Re: Seeking developers/biz owners/entrepreneurs for SE6 site

No, Pally, never. It would have been great, for example, if Lewisham Council had put that (Royal Mail?) building on Silverdale up for Temporary Use tenders. What a great gallery/studio space it could have made. Am I right in thinking its been sold/under offer? Equally, does anyone know what is happ...

Would defo recommend Beckenham carpets - Mike who works in there used to won the shop on Syd high st. He's semi-retired. Very good service and they fit themselves rather than outsourcing.

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

Thank the beer gods that it's not likely to be a weatherspoons then! Do you have a problem with good, cheap (relatively) beer and food? Its nice to have upmarket alternatives nearby but is it bad not to have a Wetherspoon one for those who don't want to pay for an 'ambience'? Stuart Sorry, there is...

Regarding Billings , as someone who buys industrial quantities of ham from them ( for personal consumption ) , In addition to fresh meats , all I can say is the place is spotless , staff are constantly washing their hands between serving hams and meats and sausages . Everything is handled in front ...

Re: Sydenham Christmas Tree

I'm really not sure how people think the Christmas tree on Sydenham High Street is "stunning," or "lovely." It seems some people's standards are so low that they would be happy with anything. If compared to the Christmas tree in Catford it really is very poor. Tall, thin and spa...

I'm not sure the hanging gardens of Babylon, or whatever that may be, is appropriate for Bell Green. The Pool river is not wide enough to mimic the Euphrates

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?

I'm beginning to think the Greyhound will never happen. :( What do you mean by 'never happen'? As in return to being the pretty foul boozer it was before? I'm glad it won't personally. However, I agree it needs to be something! The place is already going into dereliction and anyone taking it on wil...
