Re: Food and drink venues in Sydenham

I'd agree with most of those El Cid. Trattoria is still great, I still like the Dolphin though but was never impressed by the Golden Lion and gave up going. I've yet to go to 161 Kirkdale as it's too far from us and it's not open when we want to go. We generally go to places that are family friendly...

HOW…

Do you leave the forum so you no longer appear on it?

There seems to be no way of doing it.

Re: Crystal Palace Winter Wonderland

I rarely read it. I pick up bits from the Sun, Mirror and mail in cafes etc. I can't believe the Guardian is as bad as those. Or are you saying it's as bad as the Mail?

For more info on the 'Stop Funding hate' campaign: https://stopfundinghate.org.uk/about-the-campaign/media-and-hate-crime/ Many hate the Sun because of how it acted around Hillsborough and phone hacking. It's always been a rag, as has the Mail (which supported Hitler back in the day, so it has a his...

Re: Some sort of bar/beer shop

Opening a shop is complicated at times, landlords can be extremely difficult, especially if it needs a refurb. Look at how long it took the Poodle Club to open. These days there is a huge amount of red tape to do anything and councils and other bodies have had their budgets cut to the wire, so it's ...

Re: Kirkdale Village Late Night Shopping Event

It was supposed to change from 'Village' to 'High Street' as per the traders meetings during the Portas pilot. That's why the painted signs say 'Kirkdale High street' and not Village. The village part was set up by the local estate agent, much to many peoples scorn. Kirkdale is the original high str...

We got one Mary, but it was quite a while ago now. I don't keep stuff like that and aside from Spontanious Productions, there wasn't anything that caught my eye in it. I generally look online for stuff and events.

Re: Big crash outside station - Sydenham road closed

While waiting to allow a bus to get through a space where only one vehicle could get through this morning, a car overtook me and held the bus up, so no traffic could get through.

Utterly stupid.

But acts of utter stupidity on these roads happen almost every day.

Re: New Builds on Sydenham High Street

1 (Do people really want Sydenham to look as if it's locked in a Victorian time warp?) 2 On signage of the new retail units, would it be worth reminding the council that Syd. Rd. has signage rules (that the council is supposed to enforce) and politely suggest they remind the new owners/lessees of s...

Re: New Builds on Sydenham High Street

I generally agree with you Mosy but not with the second paragraph. I'd say it depends on the design. Good architecture responds to its surroundings, and it can do that in many different ways. As to the new building, I'm fine with it. It's not groundbreaking and a lot of how it will look depends on w...

I think Donald said: These are the best apartments. Believe me. Believe me. The best apartments. Best. No-one tweets about the best apartments like me. I have all the best words. They are coveffe. Re: Big crash outside station - Sydenham road closed

There has been a huge spate of really odd accidents around Sydenham recently. And they tend to be big ones. I'm surprised no-one has mentioned it before. I've noticed some bizarre driving since the 20mph speed limit has been introduced, which feels incredibly slow on some roads which are wide. While...

Re: Fig and Pistachio closing

Turning a shop into a flat won't make ANY difference to housing supply or house prices. Unless the market is flooded with cheap housing, far below current levels, house/flat prices won't go down. But that isn't going to happen. This is on a high street. It should remain a shop. It's a poor landlord ...

I was invited to pitch for this but declined it. It's being done by You&me architecture. It's one of the many high street regeneration schemes. They are difficult to do, extremely time consuming and often expensive. https://www.croydon.gov.uk/sites/default/files/articles/downloads/Thornton%20Hea...

Re: Empty shops

The empty shops are a good thing in the long run. It's a bit like pruning, it allows for new growth. The empty units are an opportunity for new businesses to come in which could breath new life into the high street. Change is good. Stagnation isn't. In nearly every instance where an area as genuinel...

<--- What leenewham said about the Vape Shop. However, why criticise a vape shop if it helps people stop tobacco smoking? I didn't criticise it, that was someone else. I only said that planning couldn't do anything about it opening as it wasn't change of use. I've nothing against a vape shop in a h...
