Flytipping on Berrymans Lane..again!

Took the dogs up the lane to Mayo Park at lunchtime and on my return found the lane blocked by a load of tree cuttings and a couple of radiators. They are doing it broad daylight now. Perhaps its time for the council to install some CCTV. BTW, saw two women picking holly off a tree in Mayo Park yest...

There was a traditional pie and mash shop on the parade next to Sivyers' yard. Was always pretty empty and closed about 8 years ago.

I understand where you're cominmg from Zac, but I dont think there is a need for any concern just yet. FHCC gave up a room, which was nice of them and were there any decent venues available?, and some of its members gave up some time. I did notice that some of the people who reported back from the g...

Without wishing to overstate the bleedin' obvious, we get the shops that the local ecconomy can support. That is why there are so many pound shops that are thriving because there are a lot of people who dont have much money in Sydenham. Catering and retail are hugely sensitive to local market condit...

Tommy, your best off chosing one yourself as they come in different shapes and sizes. Dont leave it too late though as they sell out pretty quick.

Welcome to KPR gregory. This reply is a little late for your weekend but I had a takeaway from Garam Masala on friday and it was very nice. Great to have a decent Indian that I neither have to drive to or wait an hour to have a delivery from. Did you go in the end? Any good?

Ted Johnsom has been previously recommended and people have been pleased with his work. I'll try and find his number and post it on here. He lives on Knighton Park Road.

Great response Gaz, it was probably you that I was reffering too lol! I've always been fascinated by the whole gay skinhead thing because of its socio-political connotations. The thing is, because of the uniform/wardobe it isn't often easy to tell the difference between a nice guy who likes the clot...

To be honest the only skinheads I see in Sydenham regularly are of the gay ironic variety.

Have to say that Somerfield is awful and I pity the staff who work there. The management have fattening the chain up after the OFT blocked its sale to Tesco and they have cut staff numbers while extending opening hours, with the morale of the remaining staff now at rock bottom. There was meant to be...

Yes Poppy, Im in favour of 20mph limits but not the humps. I cant believe the speed some people drive down residential streets in Sydenham, mine included.

Thanks for the info Steve. I was under impression that what existed before the petrol station was bombed in WW2 as I know that number 2 & 4 Knighton Park Road were, but obviously I was wrong. I take your point about obscuring the view of the Church and the whole of the Church seems somewhat hemm...

Got to say the Hexagon office at the corner of Knighton and Sydenham Road is a great improvement on the petrol station that was there before and one of my favourite Sydenham buildings.

A few months back I overheard a very elderly gentleman in Sommerfield saying that there was once five cinemas in Sydenham. We know that there was one on that site and one down by Home Park. I believe there was one on Silverdale so where were the other two?
Great thread and great pictures!
