Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road

Yes of course - there's a news report here.

https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/1683 ... -approved/

It's accurate, although slightly one-sided in focusing on the objections but not those in favour.

Re: Hillcrest Estate development

I don’t think it will work, either. Councillors tend to listen primarily to the factual and legal analysis of their planning officers when making decisions, and compare that to what objectors say. If they conclude that the campaigners are just making up nonsense (this is the campaign, remember, that...

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road

Despite the objections mentioned earlier in this thread, the planning committee approved the new bloc of 23 flats on the derelict shops at 86 Bell Green on Tuesday night.

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc

For those following this saga, an application has been posted today to convert the ToysRUs building at Bell Green into an Aldi. What this means for this application I’m not sure.

Wow - great news
It's such a tatty building, I hope they clean up the back of it
I must admit I was doubtful this would get approved given previous doubts over traffic

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road

Agreed. People would never accept demolishing houses to build a truck yard or waste ground on a high street now, so why people are up in arms about vice versa I've no idea.

I get the role for conservation societies but is this eyesore really worth "conserving"?

Re: 154-158 Sydenham Road

Update: The proposals for this site - the derelict builders' yard opposite KwikFit - will be heard by councillors on Thursday this week. Planning officials have recommended it go ahead. The proposals are for a mixture of affordable rent, shared ownership and private sale, in terraced houses or flats...

Re: Planning News

An update on the Bell Green development, an eight-story block of shops and flats to replace a shorter block of now-derelict shops/flats. The council officers in their written report recommended it go ahead. However at the meeting councillors voted to delay a decision for six weeks while they look in...

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc

Shops below, flats to five-storeys above --- sounds a lot like Sydenham's high street. Both land efficient and makes an area seem neighbourly all day long.

Foresighted lot, the Victorians.

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc

You are right JGD. I hope all of them go ahead. Ultimately the council struggles to build houses where it doesn’t already own the land. As far as I can tell the Brampton Court proposals are for 50 new council flats for elderly people but have been met with a very vociferous campaign against by other...

Re: Bell Green: Planning Inspectorate Public Enquiry announc

I agree with the comment from Syd Soc that this a prime site for new housing, and getting more houses built in this area would be a good thing.

The trend for buildings with supermarkets underneath and houses on top in London is also becoming more popular. Perhaps that could be considered here.

Re: Begging outside Sainsbury's local

If people are uncomfortable by the sight of roughsleepers (only the worst, most visible manifestation of a far more wide-ranging homelessness issue) Then perhaps when the council proposes building more council homes, for homeless families (i.e. at the Hillcrest Estate) We should try to resist throwi...
