Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?
Reality check on stadia cost: Emirates £400m Olympic £600m Wembley £800m And none of those included building an Olympic sized swimming pool in the basement. What percentages of those costs was the cost of buying the land, as opposed to the costs of construction? Excellent question dickp AFAIK Olymp...

Re: Greyhound to be run by owners of East Dulwich Tavern, et
Does anyone have access to the plans for the Greyhound? I ask because the ground floor area has been significantly reduced with the demolition of the lounge that overlooked the wobbly roundaboout. Without re-arrangement the drinking area could be quite small. Most people stood watching Chelsea et al...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?
who on earth would approve the knocking down of the Olympic facilities? Anybody who has not got emotional about this and looks at it cold and clinically! If (and it is still a big if) Spurs do offer the taxpayer the greatest return (or rather defrays more of the loss) on the Olympic project then wh...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?
Those that are most anxious to give away the Park appear to be people who do not use it, are unaware of what happens there and don't care a fig for those that do. Last night (again) the car parks were full to overflowing (cars on the grass too). All on area to be taken by CPFC. So 22 can play sport ...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?
I wonder whether any of those who are objecting to the site being used by CPFC have ever been to a football match? I'm a Chelsea fan ... A very avid football fan here - until I went to Chelsea. But that's another story. The issue here is that the park is devoted to sport and leisure. If CPFC can ad...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?
"midweek nights" ... the park gates currently shut at 4.45pm! Sure, in the summer they're open later, but then again, there aren't many matches then. The park is currently under-utilised at night, apart from local youths and the few residents. You are wrong. The vehicular gates to the low...

It looks quite nice. http://www.cpfc.co.uk/javaImages/54/b9/0,,10323~9353556,00.jpg Yes - all artists impressions do. Lots of green as if you look closely all the car parks have been grassed over. That's very nice. But will all the players, directors and corporate box occupants be arriving by Londo...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?
The presence of crowds and police on match days or nights may halt many current sporting activities centred on the park. Allowing 22 players to run around for money would probably stop many hundreds enjoying free fun and fitness.

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?
Do we assume that in this time of financial distress at government level that the highest bid will win despite all the promises, money spent etc? That is maximise the return to the taxpayer. If that were to come from Spurs and also solved the Bromley/LDA/UK Athletics funding for CP Park? In other wo...

Most of Sydenham is within walking distance and buses covers the rest. Shop little and often. Surely nicer and fresher then driving down to SavaCentre for a weekly megashop.Hill Dweller wrote:That would be great, although where people will park is a puzzle!

Re: Missing a nice bakery?
I agree about Tesco bread. It must be hard to bake it that bad. I have to admit my favourite bread in Sydenham are the Co-op baguettes @79p much better than Sainsburys. There is the Cake Shop opposite the Co-op which is good for fancy breads. I know they are the wrong end of Sydenham Road for you bu...

Re: Leisure centre/gym reviews wanted please
Jackie - I stand to be corrected but I think people are going to be disappointed if they think 30 mins (or an hour) in the Gym will automatically produce a significant weight loss. Weight change is basically the difference betwen calorific input and output. Average output is around 2,000 a day for a...

Re: Post and snow
Oh yes but City Link's base is at least in Sydenham. Whereas we have to rely on that northern polar anomaly called Forest Hill to deliver our mail these days. Remember Silverdale ... deep in the heart of God's own paradise!

You have several choices: LA Fitness Kirkdale: I go there because it is so convenient (I have a problem with driving to a gym). It has a pool besides the normal training machines and lots of classes. It has had a refurbishment and is OK for men. My partner does complain about the ladies changing fac...
