reductio ad absurdum Just out of interest, do you actually speak in italics too? Do you casually throw this into everyday conversation? Why not just say 'reduction to absurdity' and save us lesser, uneducated mortals who haven't wasted our time learning a dead language the hassle of looking it up?

Is this still a pub or can we just say another local has bitten the dust and this is now a restaurant? No one actually says anything about the beer - it's all about how difficult it is to get a table and what the food is like.

Well this was my local for 7 years. I went for a quiet pint.. I wanted to read my paper and check the place out. I walked in and was told by some Irish bloke on the door that football shirts were not acceptable. I pointed out that my shirt was not a football shirt but was in fact a Munster rugby shi...

Probably but it's not exactly in their interest so I doubt they'll be losing any sleep over it.

I went there to see bands a couple of times in 85/86 - well before I even knew where Southend Lane was and a long time before I moved to Sydenham (I lived in South Norwood back then). I vaguely remember one band - The Bolshoi and I've got a horrible feeling I might've seen Doctor & The Medics th...

Most people wanting to see improvements to the area have a middle-class, house-price sensitive viewpoint. I wonder what the owners and patrons of the pound shops et al make of all this debate? Is the desire to drive them from the area to be replaced by Waitrose and M&S tantamount to ethnic clea...

a) An identikit high street, full of chainsaws.

You just never know when you're going to need one. I keep losing mine and is there anywhere local that sells them? No there bloody isn't.

Who are these people who never want to move on past the greasy cafe era?? I'm one of 'these people' as you so condescendingly put it. I'm not bothered with 'yummy' cakes and I don't like coffee. I like a decent fry up and a mug of black tea and I don't want to pay a tenner or whatever it was for th...

There's nothing wrong with Wetherspoons... I wouldn't mind one there although it might kill the Railway which would be a shame.
(There isn't one in Kirkdale btw).

I do know what the previous poster means about the music though - it was loud grunge the whole time. Perfect, nothing wrong with that! It's got to be better that the r'n'b crap or ambient (or whatever the hell that stuff that sends me into a coma is called) stuff you usually get. If I had my way it...

What I'd like to know is why Milford shut the pub down before any of their planning applications were approved. We're stuck with an eysore now and for the forseeable future whereas as with The Greyhound - ok, not to everyone's taste - at least we had something that was open and used.

A number of alternative potential developers/businesses have offered to buy the site/develop the Greyhound but have been met with blank silence by the existing owners. A bit selfish that - 'we can't do what we want with it so we're going to do nothing and hope it falls down. And no you can't have i...
