I did a little bit of checking last night. It seems that, if you're travelling either with or against the flow between 1600 and 1900 on weekdays you may get clobbered for a more expensive ticket, so you may need to bear that in mind when deciding whether to get singles or a day Travelcard.

(That's actually SouthEastern, but the same principle applies: ludicrously short trains. What I couldn't understand was that the day after the snow Southern managed to run a regular service on the Beckenham Junction-Birkbeck-Crystal Palace line, but the day after *that* ran a Saturday service but wi...

Is that the same as an Anytime Day Return? Or do they still sell them? No, the Anytime, as its name suggests, allows you to travel during the morning peak as well. If they still sell them it looks cheaper to get an Anytime Day Return with a Gold card/Network Railcard than pay for two Oyster singles...

Crystal Palace has just started transmitting BBC HD on Freeview. Sadly you can't yet buy any equipment to receive it. Existing Freeview STBs and all "HD Ready" TVs cannot decode the signal. You will need a new box or TV sometime next year. Stuart It's a conspiracy, I tell you. You buy all...

Problem with Crystal Palace TV transmitter?

Has anyone else suddenly got really bad reception on analogue (assuming any of you are still on it)? My TV's suddenly gone so bad that it looks as though I'm using an internal aerial and watching through a snowstorm, and I'm having to watch on digital just to get a reasonable picture, although even ...

Most people use Penge East and the Thameslink Programme has nothing to do with the cut to Charing Cross. No? Some years ago they were talking about having to curtail through services to Charing Cross because they needed more space around platforms 5, 6, "7" and 8 for the Thameslink progra...

Currently PW and Anerley have a 2tph service to LB. At the end of May, they will have 6tph (4tph ELL and 2tph LB - rising to 4tph LB during the morning rush hours). [snip] In summary (in my view) PW and Anereley will move in May, from a dire rail service to a pretty good one. Currently only about 3...

"Daily Price Capping Daily Price Capping with Oyster pay as you go, ensures that passengers who make multiple journeys on public transport in a day in London will never be charged more than the price of the equivalent Day Travelcard or One Day Bus Pass." I hope that answers my question: o...

Kirkdale Business Centre at Cobbs Corner has space as well, I believe. No contacts I'm afraid, you might need to look for the door and ask! Thought I'd post some feedback here in case it's of use to anyone else - am currently making a huge effort to find somewhere owing to a very noisy neighbour pl...

As far as I can see, most of the disruption has been down to the postcode-selective strikes going on in central London for the last few weeks: http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=1000002&mediaId=99700760 For instance, I mailed a letter first class from the office a week or two ago ...

I'm all for worker's rights, but I'm also aware that, in these straightened times, downing tools for the sake of 0.5%, isn't likely to endear you to the populace; what I hear a lot is "these people should be grateful they've got a job", or words to that effect. I think that, for a lot of ...

Needing somewhere to work from

Hi. I'm just about to start a new life as a freelancer, but my dining room table's way too small to work off, and I'm stuck for space for storing papers, books etc. I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere in the Sydenham/Penge/Anerley/Beckenham/Croydon area where there might be some sort of small...

Re: Evening rush hour trains from LB cut by one third in 201

I’m afraid that we have uncovered a further piece of bad news for local rail users. From May 2010, Southern intend to cut evening rush hour services from LB from 6 trains per hour to 4tph. Southern will look at the situation again in December 2010 (when they have a delivery of extra carriages) to s...

The peak time might be of more concern to some of you but it is the high frequency of trains off-peak which makes our route to London Bridge so darn brilliant. They run, generally, at 10 minute intervals throughout the day, so no need for timetables at all, almost like a tube train. We really do no...

Similar messageboard for Penge?

Hi, I'm a newbie here, came across this site totally by accident a few months ago. Since my Sydenham "address" is very much on the Penge side of Sydenham, and much of this board seems to relate to the High-Street/Kirkdale sort of area, I was wondering if anyone knew of a similar board cove...
