Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?

I think some people have this image of a rolling brawl or some 80s horror hooliganism occurring. By the time the supporters leave the park via several exits, they will be dispersed - a steady stream of course - then then ten minutes later, not many at all. Being in the middle of a park, the nearest ...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?

Quite simply the new Olympic stadium was built to be a lasting athletics legacy for the country, and I can't see anyone thinking that using it for 30 days and then knocking it down is a good idea. West Ham are a Newham based club, and they're a good potential tenant. Spurs only thought to get in con...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?

If West Ham win the Olympic Stadium on Thursday (which they should in my opinion) then the National Sports Centre becomes a nice, big, white elephant. Which Bromley Council have to pay to maintain or demolish. Crystal Palace can come in instead, if they've got the money to redevelop (!), knock it do...

Re: Crystal Palace stadium re-development?

That's an interesting development. Hopefully any stadium redevelopment would be inspired architecturally by the Crystal Palace itself (but without the tendency to burn down). Are there enough pubs around the park to support a football club though...

Yeah, that looks like the backup plan for when it the Jubbly goes awry rather than a viable option. Shame.

Re: ELL service to Highbury and Islington starts next month

I wonder if it will be quicker to go to Highbury and Islington and get the Victoria line south than to fiddle with the Jubilee Line and Victoria Line (to get to Oxford Circus, where I work)...

Re: Crystal Palace Park development

Why do they need to dismantle perfectly functional stands at the stadium, and thus lose the ability to hold international athletics?

Isn't that illegal or something!

Still, Lidl has some nice ales on for £1.19 a bottle at the moment. I don't know why the shop doesn't have shopping baskets though! :?

A vague picture:

(Doesn't include the new pedestrian crossing that will be in front of the greyhound (moving the crossing from the centre of the railway bridge) that is part of the high street redevelopment.)

Re: Waitrose in Sydenham

A Waitrose near the station would be great for those of us living in that direction. It's a pain to walk down to the Co-op and risk it not being re-stocked, and then walk all the way back. Food in Waitrose is pretty good as well.

Re: Station Shop

Hopefully this means that they can knock through the wall and put in a couple more barriers so that we can get out of the station in the evening instead of waiting for *that* person whose Oyster card has stopped working, holding everyone up.

Re: Gatecrashers spoil wedding party.....

I read about this and thought it was pretty disgusting, especially given the cost of the preparations for the day (£20k IIRC), which I doubt the police will be wanting to pay back to the couple. I hope they had wedding insurance that covers police overreaction and stupidity.

Re: How's the commute?

I just switched to the Overground which is more frequent, and clean. 15 minutes to Canada Water + switch to Jubilee Line (although only one escalator is a problem). Before it was having the long walk at London Bridge, and the train would always have to wait outside the station for a platform, so it'...

Re: ANNOUNCEMENTS PLATFORM 1 SYDENHAM STATION

I don't understand why they need such an announcer on the platform? Why not install a tannoy further down the platform for the people there? Or put up a sign saying "Green trains are for London Bridge, Orange Trains with Tube-style seating are for Dalston Junction"? Also, move the informat...

Price per unit should be Minimum 75 pence. This will not in the least concern any Pub visitor who will still be paying a lot more. I remember a time when you could only buy alcohol in Pubs or off licenses which had strict opening hours . Should we not return to those days. Lets not return to the da...
