Re: Exciting new kirkdale developments?
Whilst accessibility is important most of the community is not disabled, so it would be good to have a venue that is just a lovely place to be for everybody. If it is anything like the Windmill I shall avoid it like the plague. But here's hoping...

The pub was awful. The building is extremely average. There are far more worthwhile local campaigns to be had.

I'm happy. At last a planning application from what looks like a really good architect, who'll sensitively restore and preserve the integrity of the building and bring some desirable high quality housing to Wells Park Rd.

Re: Zanzibar Alternative Uses
I love the cinema idea too. If it had a bar/cafe like the Ritzy in Brixton that'd be amazing. Suddenly we'd have a place for people from surrounding areas like Crystal Palace, Forest Hill, Brockley, East Dulwich, Dulwich with no cinema of their own to visit Sydenham (and therefore other shops/venues...

Good luck Rob. Don't be deterred by the moaning Minnie's on here. Great to see the unit in use and for it to be occupied by local artists is really exciting I think x

Re: new restuarant
If we got rid of the ugly plastic modern signage with terrible typography people insist on putting up on the original shop frontages and used old fashioned sign writers (and/or local graphic designers or artists) to paint shop names everything would look a million times more appealing. I would LOVE ...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
Right forum fans, this is my last thought for the thread as reading it tends to frustrate me but... have people not noticed The Greyhound of any historical or architectural significance has already been lost?! You can't save something that doesn't exist. And anyone with half an eye for aesthetics ca...

Or... just knock it down and put it out of its misery!
There are plenty of other empty premises near the roundabout that would make great drinking venues if converted with thought and care.

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
If you take a look at the really beautifully regenerated parts of London there are plenty of cafés offering outside coffees - with blankets provided for chilly days. Simply having an awning and outside seating creates a lovely light environment inside and out. Look at places like The Albion in Shore...

Re: Going over old ground - The Hound that is Grey
Wouldn't you rather a lovely open space than a bad impersonation of an historic pub? I agree that Purelake should not be allowed to get away with the mess they have left the site and the building in but aesthetically having the pub there just doesn't work. Before you lynch me... I love the idea of b...
