I think the fact that most posters are anonymous encourages the sort of behaviour which Mrs E understandably complains of. When I joined this forum I decided to do so under my real name, partly because I knew that that would deter me from making the sort of sarcastic, cruel or bullying comments whic...

This may not be a very important matter in the overall scheme of things, but it's quite interesting. If others want to raise more grown-up issues, why don't they open new threads about them (or post on existing threads if there are such) and leave the rest of us to our fun?

Given that, according to Cllr Best, the building only actually functioned as a 'Naborhood' cinema for four years (1939-43), I'd have thought the argument for retaining Naborhood/Neighbourhood in the name on grounds of 'tradition' was a bit thin. Why not go back a bit further and call it the Queen's ...

Did anyone raise with, and then get a reply from, the Southern managers on the issue of the withdrawal of the direct service from Charing Cross? For those of us who do not commute daily into London but who visit the West End in the evenings, this is the most unwelcome of the proposed changes.

Despite its current apparently Christian label (Hallowe'en = the eve of All Hallows, that is, of All Saints Day) its rituals and iconography reflect its origin as a pagan festival of the dead, where the spirits of the dead are welcomed home for the night and malignant spirits frightened away - see h...

I haven't come across 'spaffed' before. It doesn't sound a very nice word.

I've subsequently experienced two other periods of several hours (the second yesterday) when I got a message saying the forum site couldn't be reached. The same problem? Another one? A problem at my end (but I seemed to be able to access any other site I wanted)?

I'm not going to vote in this poll, because I think it's pointless and unhelpful expressing a view pro or anti until we have more details of what is proposed and can base what we think on some hard evidence. Incidentally, I hope nobody thinks that 'all those delis and bistros we so want' (Lizzie) an...

Please don't let's try to strangle this project at birth. Let's give it a chance. Surely there'll be plenty of opportunities for further and wider public consultations as the plans develop? Spending money on any sort of public art always provokes the response that the money could be better spent on ...

Some friends and I had a very enjoyable evening eating, drinking and talking at the Woodman yesterday - not many customers, pleasant service, unobtrusive recorded music, good value food. No wines by the bottle yet (by the glass only - the Stowells referred to in an earlier post, I guess) and they do...

Thanks, Nasaroc. Ah well, at least I got Rossini right! This was the second excellent local concert we went to over the weekend. On Saturday there was a wonderful (but poorly attended) recital of chamber music for wind and brass at St George's Christ Church and St Paul's in Woolstone Road (only just...

What were the encores?

Wonderful Beethoven violin concerto (Sergey Dogadin up) at the final (sold out) international music festival concert at St Barts this evening. But Mendelssohn 'Fingal's Cave' and Italian Symphony were both a bit fast, furious and loud for my taste. Anyone agree? Did anyone recognize the incredible S...
