Re: The Greyhound layout
What a lovely job they've done on the conservatory glass. Now we have a great looking pub at the gateway to Sydenham. Worth waiting for IMHO. I'm sure it will be a real success story. Being almost next door neighbours we'll certainly be visiting on a regular basis.

Anyone have an update on the empty and boarded up retail unit opposite the Greyhound? Looking at previous posts on this, KFH estate agents were seeking planning permission to do something with the windows. This was over a year ago. I know Lewisham Council are slow in their planning decisions but rea...

Re: Been to The Greyhound yet?
Yep gets a thumbs up from us. Went in this evening having reserved a table for 7.30pm. Nice warm welcome from the Manager (?). Food was delicious, piping hot and no complaints at all. Lovely vibe, very buzzy. Staff helpful and friendly. We've waited a long time for this moment and can honestly say i...

Re: Say 'No' to further retail at Bell Green
Yes, well having a stronger retail presence would no doubt increase the prospect of providing more jobs to the locals. The downside of course may be more traffic but I believe the benefits of local employment are far greater. Keeping the hideous gas works there is nothing more than an eyesore. Get ...

Re: 2017 Decent Christmas Decorations in High Street?
Do my eyes deceive me or have the same dodgy blue lights been wrapped around Sydenham's lamp posts against this year. 'Oh deep joy' do I hear a collective cry from long suffering Sydenham residents? BLUE? I cannot think of a more unseasonal colour! Must have bought a job lot from a boot fair, after ...

Re: black bin collection
My recycling bin (Peak Hill Gardens) was not emptied this week. When I went to report the missed collection on line the service was 'unavailable'. If you fail to report a missed collection within 24 hours (even if it's their oversight presumably) you have to wait until the next bin collection day. W...

Re: Fix my Street
Nice one Pat. I wasn't aware of the fixmystreets site but will certainly be using it from now on when I see flagrant breaches of street laws. Also just to remind everyone of the Love Lewisham site where pictures can be sent of fly tipping ect. They are very good - removing any graffiti and so on - d...

Re: 20 mph speed limits
I find it almost impossible to keep to the 20mph speed limit. In fact I think it's distracting to keep looking at my speedometer to check I'm not exceeding this speed limit. It is even more distracting bordering on irritating having some one driving within an inch of my bumper trying to intimidate m...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I have now read Pat's post and would take issue with the claim that it was the Sydenham Society who single handedly got the no.of units at Cobbs Court reduced from 70. Actually it was the immediate neighbours who achieved that particular result through active campaigning when the Sydenham Society ap...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
I have to agree with this - not sure what the Sydenham Society do to be perfectly honest. All you get when you ask questions of them is things like 'privileged information - can't divulge anything about this'. Really?? Who do they represent exactly? Have they been voted in by Sydenham residents or a...

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
IMHO Nandos would be much better placed in what was the old Co-op/Budgens shop. Much less refurbishment needed and a better venue entirely especially with a free car park in Girton Rd a stones throw away.

Re: RUMOURS: CINEMA AND NANDOS COMING TO SYDENHAM
If true this is bad news for immediate residents. Has anyone thought about the resulting parking issues this will generate? It's bad enough with commuters, Pure Gym users and Sainsburys Local shoppers vying for spaces not to mention long suffering residents who merely want to park in the road they ...

Re: Is there ever any good news for Sydenham.?
Thanks a million gillyjp for planting those flowers - why cant we all do this instead of moaning? I bought a box of eight pansies for £1.99 last week, not really breaking the bank is it. Lets all buy a box and do a bit of gardening around the area - I claim my patch will be the two fairly young tre...

Re: Is there ever any good news for Sydenham.?
Looking through this forum I am struck by how little good news about our area we see lately. There seems to be plenty of bad news - Budgen replacing Co-op, Budgens being awful, closing and possibly nothing to go in the unit, the Orb retail unit becoming another estate agent, Namaste looking awful, ...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
Oh I do think you're being a tad unfair likening estate agents with chicken shops Clembot. At least KFH will keep their shop front clean, windows sparkling (to highlight the properties on their books to their best advantage) and it will have a fairly inviting look about it. I'm looking forward to ha...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
In the meantime we will continue looking after the once neglected saplings outside the empty pub. There should be some daffodils and snowdrops appearing around the bases of these little trees in the springtime. :D Who knows, this time next year there might just be a little welcoming pub with twinkly...

Re: Bell Green Retail & Employment Plan Consultation
I am merely suggesting that these people should perhaps learn by their mistakes. Lets face it The Greyhound fiasco was prolonged by those who in their infinite wisdom wanted it made into a 'listed building' which did not do the surrounding area, immediate local residents, or the building any favours...

Re: Bell Green Retail & Employment Plan Consultation
Oh please - next we'll have the good old Sydenham society poking their noses in (if they haven't already that is) and we'll be lumbered with a 'fight to keep the gas holders and get them listed' campaign. You only have to look at what has happened to The Greyhound once the do-Gooders get involved. J...

Re: #RebuildTheGreyhound - pub to be rebuilt by April 2015?
The surrounding area outside the Greyhound Pub is looking really unkempt and tatty. The walkway between the pub and the flats is full of litter. Not a good look for the gateway to Sydenham I'm sad to say....
